How Low do you Set Heat at Night?

Anonymous
Just curious, it's so cold out, that I'm wondering what's normal/safe in terms
of lowering the heat at night.

Not looking for a scientific study, just a few suggestions on what folks
(in the DC region) normally do in terms of energy saving and ideal
wellness conditions.

70-72 upstairs and 65 downstairs (no bedrooms downstairs)

60 downstairs (no bedrooms). 62-63 upstairs with bedrooms. Kids are 6 and 4. We all have warm duvets and blankets. I hate being too warm at night.

70. My youngest doesn't use a blanket yet and is too old for a sleep sack. We've just started introducing a blanket and when he's used to it I think we'll set it lower.

We have a dual system. Downstairs is set at 67. Upstairs set at 66. We have all new windows so that has made huge difference.

Our 3,700 house was built in 1987.

68 here, for the same reason. His room feels a few degrees warmer. Working on a blanket and when he really uses it, we will set it lower. I prefer being chilly and using blankets to having a warm house at night.

71-73 in bedrooms. Turn off the heat at night in the rest of the house.

62 degrees, baby! Our thermostat kicks in at 5:30 so that it's a toasty 70 when we get up ay 7.

68 until 10pm and then it drops to 65. back up to 68 at 6am.
We have it programmed, huge money saver.

OP here, thanks so much... there is such a wide range, it just helps me feel more normal and be sure we aren't going overboard on this!

Have a great night!

58 or 60. I don't think it gets that low though.

Wow. I thought my DH was nuts setting ours to 63 at night and 65 during the day. Now I can see we're on the normal side. I do like it cool at night but am chilly a lot during the day! Our kids are always hot though and so is DH. Guess I need a sweater

We pay big winter heating bills. DD's room is cold, plus the cold-air humidifier makes it worse. Upstairs is set at 71.

Downstairs is typically between 70 and 72.

We counteract it during the rest of the year when it's usually set between around 75, and windows are open in the spring/fall as much as possible.
