Hello All,
My husband and I are considering buying a home in Annandale (the neighborhood outside of the Beltway that goes to Woodson High School). I'm a little bit nervous about the commute since I work in Metro Center. It seems that I can either take a bus to the Pentagon and transfer to Metro Center or try to find a vanpool. Does anyone have experience with either? How fast are the vanpools? Thanks! J |
| I live in that area, and when I worked at MetroCenter I drove to Dunn Loring and took the metro. Took about 65 minutes. I only did the bus a couple of times and found it really painful. But I know people do it. Now I work in Farragut Square and drive. It usually takes about 55 min. |
| It takes me 45 minutes from home to work in Georgetown. |
| My husband and I are considering moving to the same area and I commute to federal triangle. I currently drive to work (DS in daycare downtown). I am hoping for a 40 to 45 minute commute. I would leave for work at about 7:45am and leave work at 5pm. Am I dreaming? |
Yes you are. Those are prime commuting hours. Plan for at least 60 - 70 mintues and don't be surprised if it edges towards 90. |
| Thanks for the reality check. I have been checking my GPS to give time estimates when i leave work every now and then and it seemed like 45 minutes was possible, but I realize that is not the most accurate estimate. |
Thanks for qualifying which side of the beltway you'd be on! Don't want to associate with the Annandale HS side, eh? |
My husband leaves for work at 7:40 am to commute to Federal Center, SW and he gets to his office by 8:30 am. He drives. |
|
BTW, just getting out of your neighborhood and down Little River Turnpike or Prosperity can take up to 45 minutes on a crappy weather day or if there is a back-up on 495.
That's just getting out of Annandale. |
It's truly amazing what a difference 5 minutes can make to an overall commute. It would seem like leaving at 7:45am would not make that much difference but it really can. Also, does he actually get into his own office very single day at 8:30 am or does he get to a parking space at 8:30? Again, it really can make a difference because if you don't add in those few minutes it takes to get from a parking spot to the office you are still really underestimating. |
That's to his office, after parking his car in the garage. If it snows, he arrives later, but most days that's his commute. And yes, if he left at 7:50 am, he'd be lucky to be at his office by 9 am. |
Why aren't you taking Braddock out. Much much much faster in the morning. |
I live in this neiborhood and just want to say its AWESoME!
|
I go into Bethesda, not DC and I live off of Wakefield. Taking Braddock would be out of my way. |
Ditto. Really a fabulous area, especially for kids. |
