Returning to work after FMLA in March

Anonymous
I am a marketing director at a healthcare org 300 employees. prior to leaving on fmla i worked fulltime at 40 hours weekly and worked 8a- 430p mon-fri (most days it was more like until 630p).
After verifying with HR- at my company you are still considered fulltime regardless of level if working 30 hour weekly.

Since this benefit exists, when I return in March I want to work 30 hour weeks mon-thurs 730a- 3p.

I had intentions on going to the office a week before I am due back to discuss. Is that an appropriate timeframe, how should I phrase the request to my boss

I think you need to bring it up long before a week before you are due to come back.

2 weeks is the preferred HR way...do you recc doing it earlier...how would you propose to boss?

Um. I want a cool million bucks. Don't think it's going to fly, if you are full time you are full-time.

Oh and that 30 hrs thing? Is because the actual real live medical staff--RN, cna, rt, rrt, etc usually work 12-hr shifts, three per week. They want to be able to put us on-call or off when census is low, and not mess with our benefits.

Wow - a week is not enough time at all. You need to ask them about well ahead of time, so that they can plan for the distribution of work that you will not be able to do with your new schedule.

i'll still be expected to complete the work i'm the dept head...i will just have less time to do it...
i will let them know the standard 2 weeks in advance...where i'm employed its called a change in status and it happens all the time
