What's wrong with this house in Colonial Village

Clearly, it needs work, but the price is SO cheap!
I'm a bit of a Colonial Village/Shepherd park fan, my DH, not so much, so I don't think I'd ever be able to convince him. But it's big and has good bones, right? Anyone seen it?

Needs a ladder from the garage to the front door. Cheap for a reason.

Meh. But then, I don't really get the neighborhood's appeal, far as it is from, well, anything except Rock Creek Park.

I don't think 1940s bones are much to write home about, and it certainly would benefit from a hefty helping of at least cosmetic work, especially in the kitchen and some of the bathrooms-- which can be a relatively expensive proposition.

OMG, that's back on the market? My DH and I used to joke endlessly about the place that decided to make a moat instead of a driveway.

I think it's a classic example of a place that backed themselves into a low price point with an initially unrealistically high one and an incomplete reno that worried buyers that there would be lots of unseen jobs.

Well, and the moat.

Ugly pretty much.

This house is really close to Downtown Silver Spring but agree it does look like it needs work.

Live in a dump that's close to the hood. Sounds like a two-fer.

I posted yesterday that it's too far from everything. I wouldn't describe downtown Silver Spring as hoody at all, but I also think this neighborhood is not really so close to it unless one drives. The walk would be terribly dull, and not so pedestrian-friendly.

Live in a dump and hike to the hood. Sounds like a 1 1/2-fer.

I drive by there every day. It's a pretty busy street. Cars aren't zooming right there but still.

It's not that close to the hood...It is walking distance to the Rock Creek Shopping Center which has a gym, Parkway Deli, a day spa, Dry Cleaners and two bad resaturants...

Also, the house is about 50 yards from the MD border. You might as well just move over the line. And actually, you'd be a lot closer to things than at that spot.

It had some water issues in the basement. It also needs some work.

It's been on the market forever. If I had the cash I'd buy it and renovate it, the location isn't bad.

I disagree. Depends on what you want from your neighborhood!
