feeling like we are way overpaying. 2500 insurance, 550k house.

700K ( and 600K mortgage) house, 900-1000 insurance. we are in desirable are of DC, so land itself would be at least half of value of house. the mortgage company was happy with value of insurance

$2800 for $3.5M house. Your deductible is probably too low.

450k house, 700 insurance premium. 2k deductible.

900k, about $1500 a year. We opted for what's called "replacement cost" coverage. It costs a bit more but it provides what it says. Amazingly most policies don't.

About $1300 on a home worth $525k. In VA.

$800 on 550 house in southern California. 1500 if you include earthquake. Unless you live in hurricane country, I'd say you are paying too much.

you don't insure the land your house sits on.

What else is in th e OP policy? do you have an umbrella? jewelry or art?

rebuild cost our house is insured for is about $230k. (Home value about $600k but mostly land). Policy costs about $1000 a year, including a jewelry rider covering about $10k, plus a $1000 deductible.

also, OP, have you ever had a claim? Mine was sky high when I first bought my house as I'd previously claimed on my renters insurance for a burglary. It went from 2500 to less than 1k in the space of two years once some time had passed since the burglary.

Or was there a claim on your house before you bought it? Same point as PP's would apply.

In Tysons, house is worth 950k, rebuild of 660k , guaranteed replacement cost, $1000 deductable, $21,000 engagement ring coverage, ~$1000 a year.

We switched from USAA which tried to claim our house was 1 million to rebuild and wanted $1900/ year w/o engagement ring.

We picked erie which is always in the top 4 best reviews, has no hurricane deductable and great coverage.

We ended up switching not just our primary but everything from USAA to erie (5 policies auto, 2 rentals and primary) and saved probably about 40-50%

Also note quotes are dependent on a lot of factors such as your claim history, credit scores, claims on the homes, if you have more than one policy also the insurance company has a rating on each home's risk based on claims of any owners, crime etc...

Your jewlery coverage is 1k per year for just an engagement ring? That seems high.

Duh. Nevermind.
