when should I start to worry about no return of cycle after weaning?

Hello ladies - I can't believe I am back to the TTC boards! I had a DD in March - but my fertility is really bad. I was given like a 3% chance of IUI's working and no chance at IVF (extremely high FSH), but miraculously our IUI worked. I'm 35. They told me in order to have a second I should start again 6 months post partum. Well, some things came up and I didn't wean until 8 months or so. I did wean over two months though - so for a long period of time I was down to 2 feeds a day - then one feed a day - then I fully weaned four weeks ago. My body shows no signs of going anywhere fast. I started taking my temperature two weeks ago and it's still super low. I am wondering when I need to start to be concerned that my cycle hasn't reappeared. I know four weeks isn't long - but built into that is two months where I was definitely NOT exclusively breastfeeding and at least four weeks of only 1-2 feeds a day. Any one BTDT? What do they do to get a cycle going? I saw my RE back in October and he told me my cycle would be back pretty quickly after weaning (OB said the same thing). Any advice would be very appreciated.

Mine took at least 6-8 weeks to come back. I was pumping exclusively and had a very robust milk supply, so not sure if that contributed to it take longer... Good luck!

Everyone is over on the Infertility board now, I'm about to wean to TTC #2 myself, and hopefully this will be an easy process. Just curious...why was IVF not an option but IUI was (and worked, hooray)? (I've almost always heard the opposite.)

OP here - sorry I disappeared - I will check out the infertility board. I don't want to be insensitive though - I know it's hard to focus on someone wanting a second while desperately working on having your first. So my FSH is sky high - which eliminates the ability to do stimulated IVF in most fertility offices. That said, Cornell has a high FSH doctor that does the estrogen priming protocol and that was my next stop after the IUIs. Also Dominion does natural cycle IVF which I was also eligible for - when I got pregnant I was 33 - so while my high FSH definitely said something about the number of eggs I had they also said they couldn't necessarily assume the quality was bad since I was younger - they said high fsh when you are older is bad supply and bad quality usually. I'm now 35, so we'll have to see what happens this go round. . Good luck to you weaning and going for #2!
