| They spit on babies and push little old ladies down on the street. |
| The BASIS, the BASIS ate my baby! |
| Not mine. I heard it huffing up the street and I hid them. |
| This is so funny......I'm new to the school search process and from reading topic headers I assumed Basis was a dangerous hell hole as opposed to it being academically rigorous. |

20:45 - It's anything but a dangerous hell hole. It's actually a pretty good school.
But, some people have a clear anti-Charter agenda, a fear agenda - and the rest of us have our fun with that. |
| When will "Basis: the Sequel" open, and will "Basis 3" be in 3-D? |
| The prequel was called Basic |
| I don't agree 22:13. One can be pro charter anti-BASIS easily. I don't know what you mean by a fear agenda. I don't see much fear on these threads. |

WHAT... IS...
BASIS!!!!?!?!? No, really, I would like to know, there are so many threads about it but I live in MoCo. |

23:40 some posters here clearly feel threatened by the potential for BASIS succeeding, their response to BASIS has been that of one like a cornered snarling animal. That's the fear, and it's tangible. If you are pro-charter, you are in favor of having a variety of school choices to fit your needs. Being pro-charter and anti-BASIS makes little sense in that aspect, as it is an excellent choice for some, and it meets a need not met by many other schools.
23:45 BASIS is a new DC charter school in downtown DC by the National Archives. They are based in Arizona, where they have been established since the 1990s, with several schools there and more on the way. They provide a model which offers a hybrid of classical education (Latin, et cetera), European and American models, with lots of acceleration in math and science and a strong college preparatory focus. They currently go 5th-8th and will be adding years on to go through high school. Here are a bunch of articles on BASIS: https://www.basisschools.org/index.php?option=com_weblinks&view=category&id=45&Itemid=119 |
I live in Virginia, pp, but from what I can tell, BASIS is a charter school franchise that's intended as an oasis for rich white snowflakes in an otherwise horrid school system. You can see why that might be controversial. Signed, a parent of rich, white snowflakes. |
BASIS DC is about half Black and is applying for Title One status. It also has kids enrolled from every Ward and every zip code in DC. |
| Does it have any kids from 20500? |
