PARCC monitoring student's social media, wants schools to "punish" them

What are you getting that is of benefit?


A curriculum for my kids that is better than the curriculum they previously had, and that is actually also probably better than the curriculum I had when I was in school.

Was that better curriculum the result of Common Core standards?

In addition, at least for math, it's not that the standards are higher, it's that to achieve the standards, the math curriculum has to be better. On the whole, math teaching in the US has not been good.

Common Core is not a curriculum. How does Common Core make the curriculum better?

They wrote it. Why do you ask?

I'm curious because it is a pretty big effort to write curriculum and it usually takes a long time. You said that it made a big difference for your kids, but you really might not know if you didn't have a kid who experienced the previous curriculum.

I do agree that school is better than when I was a kid and I often wonder why we keep saying that we're not doing a good job when we are.

But I do have a kid who experienced the previous curriculum.

Also, we (meaning, public schools in the US) clearly are doing a good job, in some places, for some kids. But not in all places, for all kids.

Montgomery County is probably not one of the places that was having as many problems before Common Core . . . don't they have consistently high scores on SAT, etc. there?

Do you think the Common Core will result in higher SAT scores? Or will it be because the SAT has changed to fit Common Core?

No. Just pointing out that the "general public" does not have college education.

The general public also doesn't not have a college education. There are plenty of members of the general public who have a college degree.
