Snow day

2 hour delay means they don't have to reschedule all the afterschool games and activities.

Anything that gets the doors reopen I am in favor of. If they had closed all day tomorrow they wouldn't let anyone in the buildings all weekend because of optics.

Working parent here, I am thrilled! And my kid is thrilled. Vacation is over, it's time to get back to it. Transitions are hard, but it's time. It's one day. Let's all suck it up and get on with it.

Back to school for WHAT? Literally 3 hours before the weekend.

It's friday tomorrow. People already had been working, nobody is on vacation. We just don't want extra chores and complicated logistics and icy roads for no benefit. I don't have time to drive my kids to "movies" tomorrow.

Well then keep them home but being mad they’re open is weird.

You can see other people's roads from your screen? There had been plenty of threads on it on Nexdoor, many streets have not seen a single plow including residential streets that are near schools and where school buses stop. It's ice.

I am not sending my kids to school, it's stupid. I don't have time to be driving them to "movies".

Then don't! And all of us whose neighborhoods are fine will! And everyone can get what they want, and we can all quit our b@#$ing.

I’m still thinking this is a possibility. It’s been nothing but outrage except from the parents that want their own kids out of the house no matter what

Well the teachers and kids have been on vacation, but go off.

Yup! If I’m going to be treated like a babysitter than babysitter I will be.

I am happy to babysit my own kids while working a job with deadlines/deliverables in order to not have to deal with driving them back and forth to diff schools on icy hilly roads and dealing with extra HW BS on a weekend.
Exactly!! 2 hour delay makes lives harder for all working parents, teachers, and kids. This was an idiotic move by Reid and the surrounding counties as well

+100 Reid caved to the pressure of the screaming parents who need childcare.

Ha “nothing but outrage”. You are delusional.

Hi, no she didn't. Because those parents were screaming yesterday and the day before that. The weather / conditions / melt has gotten significantly better today, so they are able to open. It being a Friday is not relevant to the equation.

"Nothing but outrage.." where? Are people picketing Gatehouse?

I’m happy. We need a step toward normalcy, and at this point the plowing that has been done is all that’s going to get done. At some point you have to get back out there.

How is opening the school for half day on a Friday before the weekend, and having parents change schedules and drive on un-plowed icy roads to accommodate this a "return to normalcy"? Which normalcy? It's nothing but busy work I don't have time for. The most idiotic decision. As idiotic as this state's inability to plow residential streets and pick up garbage DAYS AFTER 6 inches of snow.

Such a lovely attitude you teachers have. No wonder morale is low. You all do nothing but complain. What a toxic workplace many of you must have, of your own making.

Great news for our rec basketball league, thanks fcps! Agree with pp, rescheduling is so hard and parents are such PITAs.
