Buche de Noel?

Anonymous
Is there a bakery in NoVa where I can get a Buche de Noel? Alternatively, a good mail-order food company rec would also work.

I seem to remember Sutton Place Gourmet sells them.

Sutton place hasn't existed for years.

I think Heidelberg Bakery on Lee Highway has them, also try Randolph's right down the street from Heidelberg.

Heidelberg is located at 2150 N. Culpepper (but really on Lee Highway & corner of Heidelberg, across the street from the KFC/Taco Bell).

Many bakeries sell them. Praline looks good. Sutton place is now balduccis. I assume they still have them. You can also go to Dean and Deluca. I cant speak to the quality as i make my own - I made the meringue mushrooms this morning in fact.

If you don't mind crossing Key Bridge, Pattisserie Poupon in Georgetown makes wonderful ones.

Buzz Bakery has a picture of one on their FB page - looks amazing. I want to buy one and I don't even celebrate Christmas!

Fluffy thoughts in mclean has them. Great ones! Loved by even people who don't eat cake. And beautiful. I have had non dessert eaters go for third helpings, after a large Christmas Eve dinner, they are that good. By comparison the Sutton place ones were like stale Hostess products.

Quail Creek Bakery at the Penn Quarter Farmers market had them on Thursday. I imagine he'll bring more this coming Thursday.

La Madeleine has had them the past few years.

Buzz has great ones. Dairy Godmother in Del Ray does one with frozen custard inside. Yum!

Authentic buches at Le Caprice in Columbia Heights, for those in the area!

I'm actually thinking of making one myself. Do you just freeze the mushrooms? I need to look into it again, but was considering just skipping them. What recipe do you use?

I made them several years ago using a Cook's Illustrated recipe and while it is time consuming it isn't especially difficult. The mushrooms should be made of marzipan, not real mushrooms
