I hate Fifth Third Bank!

I'm so frustrated with them. I've been trying to close an account for the past 3 weeks. The manager at the branch (in Florida) is "looking into how to do it" and won't return my calls - she's always having a meeting when I call, and if I do talk to her, she says that she waiting for some answer as to how to close it. The 800 number customer service folks say that I have to talk to the branch. So darned frustrating. There is a lot of money in the account - over $500k. I'm tired of being nice - who can I call or what can I do? The 800 number gave me an address so I can file a complaint. But I want to close the account.

Is the bank failing or something?

Call the Federal Reserve-- (888) 851-1920

I bet if you get their regulator involved they will shape up.

The first thing I'd do is send a fedex letter telling them you want to close the account and giving an address where to send the proceeds (or a wire transfer, if you don't mind paying the fees).

If you are just trading calls, then the bank may well say they didn't know what you wanted.

or. ask the fed reserve how to proceed....

Thank you. This week I started with e-mail communication to the bank in addition to the calls, but I'll send a letter as well. And call the fed.

Next time you call, ask for their legal department, and then ask for the name and address for their agent for service of process.

That should get their attention.

500k??!? That is a huge account. If you are that rich have your lawyer write them.

If 500k was a typo and you meant 5k ... Yeah, send certified letter to the bank with copies of your complaints to the cfpb, etc.

Pp here - just want to be sure you complain to the CFPB in addition to other regulators. The other agencies like the fed do have jurisdiction, but only the CFPB has a specific and strong consumer protection mission.
