I know this is last minute. A close family member recently passed away and I just cannot stomach the idea of our usual Christmas celebration. But I would like to plan something that would be fun and relaxing for our kids, both teens.
We would be meeting up with another family from Connecticut so were thinking Pennsylvania might be a good location. Any ideas? I'd prefer not to drive more than 4 hours and skiing would be ok, but it would be nice if there were other activities as well. Thanks in advance! |
| Some people really like Nemacolin. There are lots of activities and a spa. |
| OP here, thanks for your reply! I have heard great things about Nemacolin, but from what I understand it is very pricey! I am looking for something a little more moderately priced, if you know of anything. |
| We stayed in a 2 bedroom townhome at Nemacolin (two little kids.) We were able to take advantage of all the resort activities including room service and you can call for a shuttle anytime. It was much less expensive. |
+1 look at vrbo.com or pittsburgh's craigslist for vacation rentals. |
| Try Hershey |
| Poconos. Somewhere like Skytop? I have great memories going there as a child, especially the tobaggoning (sp?)! |
| Not Nemocolin - I just went recently and was truly not impressed. Go to Hershey. |
| OP here, thanks for the suggestions! I'll be making calls today, wish me luck. |
| Woodloch Pines. Lovely. |
| New Hope or Bucks County. Very nice and quaint. $$$ but worth it. |
good idea. this place is nice, but somewhere right in New Hope would be convenient. http://www.blackbasshotel.com |
| Try something along Deep Creek Lake. We stayed at a B&B near Wisp ski resort and it was amazing but I don't think they take kids. But there were lots of resorts and hotels and other accommodations nearby, there is lots to do and it is beautiful up there. Look for Garrett county MD - it's close to the PA border. |

We stayed in a big old stone house B&B south of Lancaster this summer. No activities at all, other than the big yard for BBQ and kiddie soccer/tee-ballgames, but that was the point. It was cheap, and blissful. Lots of sitting around the big kitchen table, drinking coffee or beer and yakking with the family like old times. And Lancaster was nice for restaurant dinners or farmer's markets.
May not be what you're looking for, but we had a great time. Google is your friend. |
