Have you watched ECNL games? There is little need for a "library of methods to implement imprtant skill/strategies...etc..." And any cutting edge trends are lost on ignorant parents who just want to see W's and their kid on the field to be recruited. Dumbest post today, congrats! |
Good luck seeing the field |
I agree, also a parent here. Never had JM as a coach but he’s led some trainings, always super friendly and positive and a different perspective on soccer given his background. |
This shows US soccer also is in way down… It’s a long/wrong way to catch up. |
+1! Only have experience via his Ekkono classes, but he was absolutely great. I would jump on the chance to have him as a coach for my kid. |

We had JM as coach for the 2012 MLS Next last year. He was/is on a whole different level as far as coaching goes. Unfortunately, parents (and sometimes club leaders) are so obsessed with winning that they forget that the most important aspect of youth soccer (U16 and under) is about learning and development. JM has so much soccer knowledge and experience it is not funny. But he is modest and does not like to impress people. Parents of MLS Next were complaining that he was not winning games, etc. Now they have him coaching the girls team. If you have him as a coach, consider yourself lucky. Coach from Spain who will help your player learn the game the right way. Rarely will you find him screaming or making players feel guilty when they make a mistake. He makes them think as opposed to telling what to do.
Very different than the guy Bethesda fired SM. We had this guy SM and he was detrimental to the boys. Complete opposite and if Bethesda keeps hiring these types of coaches like JM, they will go far. |

Agree on assessment of JM.
Disagree strongly on comments on SM. Demanding, yes, but also a terrific coach. |
Yes you get it. Most ECNL girls even at the HS still lack basic ball control skils, specifially settling balls out of the air and using both feet; they sttruggle to understand the value of passing to the correct foot, or even receiving on the back foot to be ready to attack into space or in transition. "library pf methods' are quite useless if you don't have the techincal tool box to execute basic passing and receving at game speed and then under pressure. US women are still competive becuause of physical tools, and are falling behind becuase we still don;t know how to develop techincal players. if you think i'm a hater seriously go watch an ECNL game. There will always be individual players who can do this but even then its not that impactful as soccer is truly a team sport. |
Yeah you're dead wrong about SM. He's one of the few around here who does know howdevelop technical players. If you suck though and don't work on your game on you own SM will tell you straight up you are not good enough. Gurantee you he's not wrong. |
Thank you so much for your sincere response. I noticed that (almost) none of the players can scan the field/opponents with the way he suggests to do. Now I partially understood why he (or the method) is struggling in US. On the other hand, if our kids start their ways earlier like U-little, we could see different results. But I hope his voice stays in players mind and blossoms when some of them get to the higher levels. Thank you again for your comprehensive descriptions about what is happening on the field. |
Yes, everybody loves JM if you join Ekkono clinic. Players and parents all just love him. Just join the clinic to find out if you are wondering. |
Any more on this? NP, for various reasons DD is looking to switch teams next year. She’d be fine on blue or green, just wants a spot/shot. |

Don’t be fooled. KL will make the 2011 first team decisions. It’s all about athleticism. Skills can be taught, physicality can’t be. You need both but KL and BSC start with the athletes first and try to teach them skill. Don’t bother if you are not already a top physical player. You won’t get game time.
