Ok I am 7 months pregnant and just put Xmas lights out on our bush only to google and discover that Xmas lights and cords contain high amounts of lead?? Apparently in California they label that it can cause birth defects and pregnant women should not handle them???? WTF!?!?!?? I am FURIOUS! How is this even POSSIBLE? Is my baby going to be OK??? How can this stuff go on?
Apparently it the Cali lable says "“Handling the power cord on this product will expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. WASH HANDS AFTER HANDLING” |
|
Um, have you washed your hands?
Ok, then. |
| Note to self, don't eat the light bulbs this year. You'll be fine. |
| Calm down, Momma. You're fine. Cali requires that warning on EVERYTHING. |
| This cannot be real. |
Yes, OP, should you have any cravings for light bulbs, definitely abstain.
Otherwise, calm down- you're fine. |
| It is too late OP. You dun goofed. Not a great start to parenthood. |
| You are 7 months pregnant - despite what some people may tell you, your baby is already developed and is fine, even if you touched a bulb. |
| OMG people. Chill! It's not like there is a listeria risk. If you're really concerned, just microwave the lights to steam them. That should kill any risk. Make sure you use whole grain bread (if you're making a Christmas light sandwich) and don't use mayo if it's going to be sitting out. Are the lights hormone free? |
|
Everybody-- lay off OP!
I would be concerned, but I'm sure you're fine, OP. Be sure to wash your hands and perhaps any surfaces you laid the lights on. Ignore the azzholes. |
| Contains lead and able to leech lead into your system by handlng are not the same thing. |

| Um, please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fairly certain you would have to actually eat the bulbs in order to get lead in your system? Or did you lick your fingers after handling OP? |
| Was there dirty dice in the box too???? |
They do. It is insane. When we lived there, every restaurant had that warning "consuming food prepared in this restaurant will increase your risk of certain cancers". Fabric stores had warnings on every display that warned that "Fabric is made in factories with chemicals that may cause cancer. Using fabric may increase your risk for certain types of cancers." Same thing for craft stores. Hardware stores. Grocery stores. Etc. Party stores had signs that said "It is illegal to purchase mylar balloons without an attached weight in the State of California due to the risk this might cause to the environment" My kid's class kept a running list of the stupid warnings they found when out and about. Relax. You can't take it too seriously if the warning came out of California. Life is not worth living if everything you do is wrapped up in a warning label. Just wash your hands. It will be fine. |
