US Capitol Breached by Trump's lunatics

Please don't post stuff from that "Fifty Shades of Whey" account - it's not always reliable. I want to get to the bottom of January 6th too - the funding, the organization, etc - but please post facts.

For example, this WSJ article from Feb. 1 https://www.wsj.com/articles/jan-6-rally-funded-by-top-trump-donor-helped-by-alex-jones-organizers-say-11612012063?st=yckxwlyitkb0ozr&reflink=share_mobilewebshare

Mr. Jones personally pledged more than $50,000 in seed money for a planned Jan. 6 event in exchange for a guaranteed “top speaking slot of his choice,” according to a funding document outlining a deal between his company and an early organizer for the event.

Mr. Jones also helped arrange for Julie Jenkins Fancelli, a prominent donor to the Trump campaign and heiress to the Publix Super Markets Inc. chain, to commit about $300,000 through a top fundraising official for former President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign, according to organizers. Her money paid for the lion’s share of the roughly $500,000 rally at the Ellipse where Mr. Trump spoke.

Another far-right activist and leader of the “Stop the Steal” movement, Ali Alexander, helped coordinate planning with Caroline Wren, a fundraising official who was paid by the Trump campaign for much of 2020 and who was tapped by Ms. Fancelli to organize and fund an event on her behalf, organizers said. On social media, Mr. Alexander had targeted Jan. 6 as a key date for supporters to gather in Washington to contest the 2020-election certification results. The week of the rally, he tweeted a flyer for the event saying: “DC becomes FORT TRUMP starting tomorrow on my orders!”

Has there been any new reporting on the funding since this?

Not the PP who posted the Whey link but thank you for the reminder that not all twitter people are on the up and up (or maybe they just make mistakes in good faith; it’s difficult to know). I do wish that there was more coverage on this, the whole domestic terrorist attack, especially for the organizers and big names. I remember that there were suggestions early on of some fairly famous people being deeply involved in this. I won’t say the names as it wasn’t verified, but it certainly didn’t seem out of character for the political activist to have rented the buses she was accused of renting.

Ragey white men. I see them in big trucks tailgating and driving aggressively all the time out here in maga country. I feel kind of bad for them that they are so angry, not a fun way to go through life.

Marcy Wheeler is very reliable and provides great in depth analysis on her blog. https://www.emptywheel.net/ She's an independent journalist writing about national security and civil liberties.

Don’t worry. They’re starting to incite another domestic terrorist attack on the country.

Well after January 6, at least 500 people will be doing some jail time, including some of the people who helped organize.

Hopefully this time the police will be more organized, and there will be more arrests at the event and more of the organizers will actually be caught and jailed.

The US House of Representatives does not make the rules for the US Senate.
