ECNL moving to school year not calendar

This is not the point.

The point is this is a problem for parents that don’t know where their kids will stand. There will also be an issue during tryouts. A club can prepare rosters for next year only if no one leaves.

Then you have to consider new kids that may show up during tryouts.

Then why have they discussed it for about a year and are they voting on it?

To be fair, this is all an issue every year. There are dramatics, surprise moves, surprise cuts, clubs aren't sure if they'll have 2 teams or 3 teams at a level, etc. Same issues, just this year it will be even more chaotic than usual. Maybe some people on here have been blessed to go into tryouts every year knowing their kid already has a spot on their dream club's A team, but for many people this chaos is already an annual event. My kid has gone through it with uncertainty some years, and certainty other years. If you've never experienced it before, welcome to your first uncertain year.

Isn't this true every spring? For each team, who is staying, who is leaving, who is getting demoted, who is getting promoted and who new coming in happens every year. I never know where the kids stand other than the club wants to pull kids in from the outside and demote kids on the inside.

Uhhh yeah.... that happens every year with or without a change.

They’ve already agreed. US Club, ECNL, USYS leadership have all been discussing this for a while. To think it’s not happening is just holding onto hope. If US Club and USYS agree on term then it’s going through. Will all come down to that which will be discussed next week I believe.

VYSA Club meetings have been going on around the state, and they mentioned that US Soccer is doing a "retreat" on 10.22. They are surely talking about this there. It came up in our group session and quite clearly the VYSA President is in favor of SY. A couple of administrators were talking to him afterward and I was close enough to get the impression that a lot of people at the clubs are opposed to the change but the message did not seem to be getting through to VYSA leadership, during the meeting or afterward. The general feeling is that travel soccer is not a social experience with kids from your class at school like rec soccer is (which does not mean there are no friendships or social involvements, just that you're not as likely to have your school BFF on your travel team as you are in rec) and that either way, you still have a kid 12 months older than another kid on the team, whether it is January and December or August and July, and this just shakes things up for no obvious benefit at the travel level.

I don’t know who he spoke to or what board he sits on, but my ECNL director said it’s happening and has made spreadsheets with the player pools.

The problem is most coaches don’t really care about players. If I was a coach why would I want to deal with a change that doesn’t benefit me in anyway just makes things more difficult so kids can play with their school age group. Coaches don’t really care about trapped players just have to deal with it.

My daughter’s club coach who’s also the ECNL director spoke with ECNL leadership believes this will pass. But nothings official until it’s official.

Did US Club Soccer's Board meet this month to discuss this issue? Or did any joint meetings between US Club Soccer and USYS occur?

I guess the ECNL director of each club already has the information; it gives them a lead time to prepare. The pre-ECNL tryout in Socal is in February.

This thread is so ridiculous with all the my friend heard that his coach on a different team said that SY is going to happen.

Then with all the "take it to the bank" comments.

Maybe you'll be right. If you're not it would be nice if you were hung up by your toenails for lies and deceit.

Nov 22 will come and go with no vote. The trolls will go on the US soccer website and find out the next scheduled board meeting and start the nonsense over saying the vote is coming in x month. It's been the same story since the thread was started.
