Great Beginnings Furniture??

Before I make the long trek to Gaithersburg during my already too-short weekends, how do the prices compare at Great Beginnings to places like Pottery Barn Kids and Land of Nod? i wish they published their prices online. I'd be totally happy going the Ikea route, but they just don't have the style or color that I'm looking for in this case.

We bought stuff from Great Beginnings and the main reason was that they knew the info about each product at the other stores youmentieond they were jsut hourly employees who would look at the item and have no idea about it. The customer service at great beginnings was great and dealing with a small business owner vs big company store made it better.

Out fo the way to get to but we like it more

I would consider calling them ahead of time and ask them to give you a price quote.

I also think: http://www.baby2teenfurniture.com/ is a good place.

I was glad that I made the trek to Great Beginnings. They have more than furniture and the non furniture stuff was way cheaper than at Buy Buy Baby. We bought pricey furniture, probably as pricey as Pottery Barn Kids, but it was better quality than Pottery Barn Kids.

They are great on the phone. You could just call to get prices.

GB has all different price ranges of furniture. it can be more or less than PBK and Land of Nod. the customer service is great and as a previous poster mentioned, you get salespeople who are very knowledgeable about the various products. they have furniture made in romania, canada, US and china -- and probably other places.

We bought our Crib and glider there. They were cheaper than the brands you mention and the customer service is great. If you go, I suggest going to lunch at yu Zhou cafe, down the road. That way, even if you don't find what you're looking for, you at least get a damn good lunch.

They have great quality stuff and customer service is excellent. Their stuff is better than Pottery Barn Kids, which is mostly made in China and has gone way downhill in my opinion. We bought our nursery furniture there as well as some other pieces for our older child's room, study and family room. We could not be more pleased! They also have stuff on clearance all the time and you can get great deals. The staff there are well informed and great to deal with. They also have all the gear and adorable clothing/layette items. We love that store. It is most definitely worth the trek...they also have a new store in Virginia.

We bought a dresser and convertible crib there. What we chose was not cheap, but the quality is fantastic. The people there were nice and knowledgeable, and the selection is extensive. Definitely worth the trip, OP!

We've bought a nursery and kid bedroom set there and each time received awesome customer service. The prices vary a lot, but for both sets we've purchased, their price is on the low end for what I've found for the same brands online. The same salesguy sold us our kid furniture about 2.5 years after we bought our nursery furniture.

The customer service at this store is horrible. I would absolutely not recommend going all the way out there to be insulted. I went there because we were in Virginia, but in hindsight, we should have made the trek back up to Gaithersburg. It's not nearly as out of the way at B2T anyway (other shops, restaurants, etc. around). I don't know how B2T stays in business if they treat all of their customers the way I was treated by one of their employees not once, but twice.

I iked GB because I felt their quality was much better; we buoght the Pali crib and a dresser from another company that matched perfectly, but it has held up better than my crate and Barrel adult-furniture dresser in our master bedroom. its worth the money and worth the trek to GB.

We bought our nursery furniture set from GB also. The best thing about the store is that they have a large selection of furniture on display, so we were able to walk around and get a good look at the various options. After picking out a crib, my wife was trying to decide between two dressers, one that was part of the crib set or another that was around the corner. The salesman offered to push the other dresser next to the crib so my wife could compare them all next to each other and proceeded to do just that. Another bonus is that delivery was fairly cheap, and the delivery men did an excellent job setting everything up exactly where we wanted it. I think the prices were similar to other places we looked, but honestly, the selection and service was what really sold us. We live in Falls Church, and it was worth the trip out there.

Thank you all for your helpful responses. Sounds like it will be worth the trip this weekend. Thanks again.

One more plus for them, even though you are convinced - they have a section of reduced furniture - slightly off/second stuff that is really reduced in price. We purchased a dresser from that section, it didn't have damage, the problem was the color, but we liked it and it worked for us and it was a bargain!

I also think it is worth the trip- we made the rounds to all of the baby furniture places in the area, and found them to be the easiest to work with and to have the best prices.
