Target and Walmart opening Thanksgiving. Are you shopping?

This seems like a really dumb idea. Why even close Thanksgiving morning? Thanksgiving is about dinner (and family and football) so why open at 8pm? Are we that addicted to shopping that we can't even take our one day off to give thanks for all we have? I feel bad for their workers who will be forced to work.

God no. What's next, shopping on Christmas morning? I avoid stores altogether, and not just during the holiday shopping time. The only stores I actually like to go into are Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. Everything else is done online.

Also a big NO! I also shop mostly online. No crowded stores for me! Used to be fun. Now, the thought is just the worst!

I feel so badly for the workers who have to work on this day. Then again, maybe it'll be sort of slow (?) so it'll be an easy shift to work (during the day, before people finish up dating and then hit the stores?)?

However, to play devil's advocate, it's not like it is a religious holiday or anything like that. I mean, stores are open on other federal, non-religious holidays, like Fourth of July day. Why not T'giving Day?

Yet, to play devil's advocate with THAT, I saw a funny FB thing that said something along the lines of: "Only in America would we go from a day where we profess being thankful for all we have. . .right into shopping until we drop." Sigh, only in America!

THEN again, to play devil's advocate with that, really, don't most other countries try to (unfortunately, sometimes) imitate the US' consumerism? Capitalism *is* supposed to be based upon (universal) human nature, so. . .

Don't know about other countries, but I know from experience that ALL of western Europe's stores are shut up tight on their numerous holidays. Also Sundays. Everything is CLOSED.

Yes, but I suppose I am thinking more of when nations move to first word status, such as Asian countries? who are newly (or transitioning) First World?

I doubt I'll go shopping, but my family typically does Thanksgiving meal at lunch time.

I'm won't be stepping into brick and mortar stores until mid-January. Holiday crowds make me very anxious and I usually end up throwing up in the women's room. I guess that is better than on the actual merchandise.

No way. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays precisely because it isn't very commercial. You won't catch me in any of those stores doing holiday shopping until at least the following week. Why rush the season? That's my feeling.
