Are there any creative professionals here?

I feel like I am the only one (at least on this forum anyway). Are any of you artists? photographers? writers? designers? gallery owners? musicians? Or did I leave them all in LA?

Guess you are unique! I miss NYC where all of my friends were in the music or film business. I am a scientist fwiw. We like to think we are creative but lab coats kind of kill the glamour...

We're here!!! Just small in numbers. It has taken years to find folks like myself and husband ( I was an actress and make up artist / husband is the recovering musician type.) I would love more creative types in my circle ( all my friends love me but think I am a goof!) Dosen't bother me a bit. I totally miss NYC and all my friends from the before chidren days!! We both are still connected to our craft in this area so it has been fine.

what brought you creatives to DC? I know the creative scene can't compare to NY/LA ~ I miss it so.

Scientists are fantastically creative IMHO!!

I am a former painter, currently a writer, and a fish out of water in DC, too, even though i grew up here.

I work in museums (hence the move to DC), and I miss NYC and all my creative AND scientific friends there too! I do meet a lot of kindred spirits through work, but among the general population in DC it is depressingly difficult to scare up an interesting conversation. (See the Ivy League thread...)

Yes science requires creativity too! Totally agree! Scientific/technological innovations are fueled by an active imagination.

I certainly know many creative people in DC, although many of them are not moms, and the rest just don't seem to go to this site I guess.

There must have been many at some point, because I think DC architecture an museums are breathtakingly beautiful...well most of them anyway! The American Indian museum building is super cool! And I love driving down 14th street and being in the middle of all that majestic architecture. I was so happy to see it when I returned from Cali.

Writer here. My husband's job moved us to DC. I haven't made any friends yet, and I would love to expand my creative circle here. Any ideas??

There's events/workshops for media people at mediabistro.com...I'm a member but have yet to attend one...can never seem to find the time. One day!

There is also Arlington Writers Meetup Group. If you go to meetup.com you'll probably find a writing/art group near you.

I co-own a company that does afterschool arts enrichment programs and camps-- Creativity is the name of the game.

My business partner is an amazingly talented artist. She is one of the most creative people I know and is so incredibly lucky to be able to use her talent in her job on a daily basis.

that is cool, too! What kind of art projects does she do with the kids? I need new ideas. One time I bought this big canvas, and I divided it with tape, using the rays of a Philippine sun. Then I had each family member paint two sections between the rays, to reflect something about themselves. I took off the tape and it looks so sweet! It hung in the Martin Luther King Library for awhile.
