ECNL forcing Brave & Union Partnership

Why? The purpose of ECNL is not to win games, it is to help (girls) get showcased to play college soccer. Sure, it’s nice to win at Nationals, but by the end of 9th grade every kid on that team is thinking about the college angle, working on their clips and figuring out which ID sessions to go to.

ECNL teams are about developing players who can step onto a college pitch and not get blown out on day one. ECNL (and GA) re successful because college coaches go to the showcases. Those coaches go to the showcases because they know that every player on the field can all handle a certain level of pressure and physicality. So with those bases covered, now they can focus on what players they want, which players are likley willing to play for their school, and which players will help them keep their jobs.

Who cares? I don’t really get why people post this stuff. It’s normal to check out other clubs, and no big surprise that people would do so in this period of upheaval.

Haha well done.

All things considered if the 2012 parents are the ones panicking... between Vienna [who got the sh$t end of the rain out], bryc and mclean... the u12 girls showed up at Jefferson cup. All were competing in different divisions. All appeared competitive. Take 4, 4, 4 and 4 outsiders/floaters and you've got a team

The problem with girls ECNlL is at the younger ages it tends to attract the most challening parents.

My experience is that on the top ECNL teams all the parents are soccer crazy but "normal" if there is such a thing when you're soccer crazy. The lower end ECNL parents are the ones that ruin it for everyone else. Instead of focusing on getting better as a club or team they jump online to talk about how great ECNL is. When you call them out on which team their kid plays for in ECNL the conversation becomes evasive. I think this happens because the lower end ECNL teams get beat up on week after week in league and in frustration they lash out at other League parents to make themselves feel better.

As the kids get older wins mean less and less and Showcases mean more and more. When this happens most of the ECNL cult parents mellow out. However sometimes they just switch from bragging about wins to the number of recruiters at an event. Again when you call them out on which recruiter is your kid engaged with and they become evasive.

All the over the top ridiculousness is just not nessasary. I promise if your kid plays in College or professionally nobody care which league they played in as a youth.

It use to be that way. But not anymore.. its become too diluted. colleges are only showing up to watch maybe top 2 brackets. They are not showing up to league games of the worse teams nor ECNL teams in 4th bracket of a showcase. Ive seen ECNL teams in bottom tier brackets getting owned by RL teams. League is not going to matter if your kid is good and wants to play college. You go to the various IDs if you are serious about college.

Agree. It is all about college IDs. Playtime and development making mistakes in games is what matters. Watching league games (even if it is ECNL or top bracket) from the bench or playing 10 minutes is useless.

Any offer out today?

Some have only been able to make it to 1 of 2 ID sessions. There are 2 more sessions to go. With high school season it’s complicated. Other clubs sometimes want to see a player 3 times or more. Anyone can look good once.

BRYC was in the bottom bracket of 9v9 (8 of 8) and VYS was in the bottom bracket of 11v11 (3 of 3). Not saying you can’t make a team out of that but a little misleading. This 2012 union team is going to struggle next year. The timing of the upheaval hurt with any new players and SYC was going to make up most of the team. Maybe they’ll get better with time.

The boys have two more sessions. The girls are done.

I’ve heard that when they get to sophomore and junior year that, even if they’re bench players, coaches will put them in for significant time at showcases for purposes of recruiting. Is that not the case? I realize it’s at the coach’s discretion but I’m wondering if that is what typically happens. You get a lot more visibility that way. Going to college IDs agreed is great but how many of those can you do especially when they’re not local.
