Office costume contests

Does anyone in your office actually participate? What prize does your office offer?

The support staff do, it's a nice way to give one of them a good-sized gift card. The attorneys don't or do something half-hearted -- would be unseemly for an attorney to take the prize when it is really intended for support staff to win, as they don't get paid as well as we do.

My office doesn't do costume contests. If they didn't, I wouldn't participate b/c I can't get my act together. This morning, I had to remember to take to daycare:

Both my kids' costumes.
Two lunches.
Cupcakes and yogurts for the daycare parties we signed up for.
Various items for trick-or-treating that daycare requested.
Most importantly, signed doctor's forms for epi-pens, Benadryl, and one other item.

I could barely remember it all!

What? A costume contest at a professional office?? I can see it at a hair salon but not at most other places.

We had them every year at our IT firm.

No contests here, but I wish they did.

I dressed up anyway.

Back office type firm, or customer facing?

That will add burnish to your professional image.

This is the first place I've worked that didn't have a costume contest. All professional settings in different industries: tech, insurance, pharmaceuticals.

I would never dress up on my own. Did anyone see the Modern Family last year when Mitchell dressed up as Spiderman and then it turned out his office wasn't dressing up? So cringe-worthy and funny.

My outfit is very understated. If I removed the ears, I'd look like a regular office worker. Unclench.

BTW, why not just say "polish"? See: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/268911.page#2895774

Law, finance and accounting professionals don't generally wear costumes to work.

I'm the person you quoted and I'm in a hybrid of law & finance.
