How is there not a thread about that lunatic dad who screamed at the Loudon school board?

Exactly.

Public schools don't have this "luxury". They are accountable for the health and safety of their students/teachers.

Let's be fair. They are both liable for safety and health. Do you think private schools want to be sued, or to get negative reviews or press? That would hurt their businesses in an already bad economy. They're not going to do anything to jeopardize their business. Public schools, on the other hand, don't have to worry about generating revenue obviously. They have the luxury of being able to be extremely risk adverse without financial repercussions.

Parents who desperately want in-person are willing to sign away liability.

Public schools are a different beast. And you're right - they aren't motivated by money.

Do people here really truly believe that private=better?

Private will F you over so fast if it affects their ability to profit.

Like, can you imagine if fire departments were privatized? Lmao

Nope. I support public schools. But I do think private schools have handled the pandemic much, much better.

Exactly. They've been able to implement safety measures that public schools haven't been able to implement yet (testing, safety procedures, etc.). It's easier for privates because they are much smaller, have more money, and can pick and choose their families who will comply.

Um no. Trash collectors don’t face anywhere close to the risk of acquiring Covid on the job as 15 people spending 6 hours in a poorly ventilated room.
Do you know nothing about viral load?

Please explain why most Catholic/private schools have been back since September at full capacity, explain daycare centers, explain indoor gyms/gymnastics/karate/etc. classes. Why are public schools an exception?

Because public schools are accountable for the health and safety of their students, teachers, and staff.

If it were safe (due to testing, procedures, PPE, vaccines, community spread, etc.) then they would have opened a long time ago (thanks, Trump turds, for ruining this for the rest of us).

With the vaccine rollout they will hopefully open soon.

This little rant doesn't cut it.
Do you think that private schools are not accountable for the health and safety of their students, teachers and staff?
Hell...... if something happens at a private school, they will lose their paying customers. I would say they are MORE accountable.
So, your reasoning is totally flawed.

No - private schools help prove my point exactly. They have the means to make a safe environment so that the students can return. They quickly brought air cleaners (that are only now getting procured in public), they procured PPE and set up outdoor classrooms, they require weekly testing (can you imagine any public doing that?), they can even restrict activities outside of school.

If our public school systems could do what the private schools have done, then they would have opened a long time ago.

Don't be absurd. Very few private schools are doing ANY of these things, let alone all of them. Unless by "PPE" you mean, cloth or paper masks. Special air cleaners, outdoor classrooms, weekly testing, restricting activities...none of those things are happening at almost any private.

Explain daycare centers, the filthiest places on Earth. Please explain how daycares are remaining open and daycare workers continue to show up everyday willing and able. Now, the daycare workers are the true heroes.

My parents’ neighbor’s 4 year old son is positive with Covid. There was an outbreak at the center and they are closing it down for 10 days.

The Catholic school bear my house just went all virtual because they deemed community spread to be too high.

No, stop! THIS DOES NOT FIT THE NARRATIVE!

Again, the transmission rate in schools is NOT HIGH ENOUGH TO WARRANT CLOSING SCHOOLS INDEFINITELY. The guy in the video is correct, “figure it out!”
The schools who have a hybrid option fall back on DL if and when there is ever a case of covid.

Anonymous
Offer DL if and only if there is a case of covid.

Yes, by all means, stop the Catholic school bear before he does any damage to the children! Thank God they are all safely learning from home while the bear runs loose in their school...

How does this hurt the narrative? This supports the narrative. COVID is not disappearing from the planet. Outbreaks will happen in 2021, 2022, 2023...2040 and on. School must go on. It gets shut down when it reaches a certain threshold. You are absolutely not making the clever point you think you are.

There is nothing special about privates vs publics except only one was financially motivated to open.

But are the transmission rates high in those private schools? Are the students and teachers all constantly sick with covid?

They are not out sick. They have been doing fine. They have not closed any schools nor have there been any outbreaks. The parachoials have distanced and worn masks. They do temp checks and screenings (not testing, they can't afford it) and no outbreaks. I know one crazy Catholic school that doesn't even require masks of all its students if they have health exceptions - ZERO outbreaks there but I don't agree with that policy.

it doesn't hurt the narrative. You have an outbreak which are the exception not the norm - you close up for a few weeks to prevent more outbreaks. Most outbreaks are being traced to social activities that the kids in the same school are involved with (parties, playdates, etc) and probably are occurring there. A child playing with another child even outdoors is NOT maintaining six feet of distance.

Covid is a thing. But it can be mitigated through safety procedures. The facts support this completely. If schools were hotbeds of spread we would be hearing about school after school shuttering its doors around the country. OR daycares closing down because they can't be safe. But for the most part that isn't the case.

I don't care his point. He acted like a fool. There is absolutely no reason to raise your voice in that manner, in a forum like that. His entire point was lost by his display of crazy. He reflects poorly on himself and his poor family. And I pity the teacher that is forced to endure him during the school year.

Those forcing this viral and admiring his "passion" are the same ones who were impressed by Trump's incoherent displays of rage, labeling him a "strong man" and someone who "says what he thinks." LOL
