How is there not a thread about that lunatic dad who screamed at the Loudon school board?

Private institutions opening during a pandemic because they put their bottom line over people? Heavens! This must be why health insurance companies made up "preexisting conditions." It all makes sense now.

There is nothing special about privates vs publics except only one was financially motivated to open.

But are the transmission rates high in those private schools? Are the students and teachers all constantly sick with covid?

My sister's daycare has closed 3x over the last two months due to positive cases. So it's been open for approx 2 out of 8 weeks. Total PITA for her to find backup childcare.

If private schools are able to safely open, pubic schools should too.
It's not like private schools have a ton of cash in reserve to do the things that need to be done.
In fact, public schools, for the most part, are better funded.

Sarcasm? This is certainly NOT true for the public & private schools near us.

No and no.

Exactly.

Public schools don't have this "luxury". They are accountable for the health and safety of their students/teachers.

The private I applied to for my kids in fall has plexiglass at the desks and put in a special filter. They told me the special filter was actually pretty cheap. This is not a high dollar private, though it's more expensive than parochial school.

And public schools should be following this model. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than DL.

Do people here really truly believe that private=better?

Private will F you over so fast if it affects their ability to profit.

Like, can you imagine if fire departments were privatized? Lmao

Let's be fair. They are both liable for safety and health. Do you think private schools want to be sued, or to get negative reviews or press? That would hurt their businesses in an already bad economy. They're not going to do anything to jeopardize their business. Public schools, on the other hand, don't have to worry about generating revenue obviously. They have the luxury of being able to be extremely risk adverse without financial repercussions.

Nope. I support public schools. But I do think private schools have handled the pandemic much, much better.

Well, I don’t know, is public school better! Average public school students are probably a year behind private school students thanks to DL.

That's fair and this may be the most refreshing comment I've seen on this forum in years

Um no. Trash collectors don’t face anywhere close to the risk of acquiring Covid on the job as 15 people spending 6 hours in a poorly ventilated room.
Do you know nothing about viral load?

Please explain why most Catholic/private schools have been back since September at full capacity, explain daycare centers, explain indoor gyms/gymnastics/karate/etc. classes. Why are public schools an exception?

The Catholic school bear my house just went all virtual because they deemed community spread to be too high.
