My Doctor husband came home crying yesterday

Sounds good.

Now stop whining too. You signed up for your job. Most of your health peers are furloughed. You don't have a shortage of ventilators. Hospitalization rates are falling.

Hosp rates in the DMV are not falling, you jabroni. They haven't even peaked. My furloughed peers aren't trained for this and thus are protected. See how that works? Now kindly take your profound lack of respect and go pound sand.

OP, I'm off this thread now but tell your husband we're all right there. None of us are sleeping. Just hug him and be there. It means a lot.

Um. Aren't hospitalization rates falling? They sure are in New York. And which never hit anywhere near peak projections.

Most of the DMV hospitals are quiet and under capacity.

No you idiot. They are falling in NY because of social distancing.

Covid cases have surged in the past 7-10 days in most of the hospitals here in the DMV. We are nowhere near the peak. Hospitals are under capacity because they have cut everything that is elective to prepare for Covid patients.

All these planned communities of condos stocked on top of stores because 'global warming' seem like such a great idea now looking at NYC.

Hospitals cutting everything to prepare for Covid patients is probably the stupidest policy decision I've ever seen. There's a kid I know in Boston who has an esophageal tear that could be repaired so he can actually eat again. Right now is at huge risk for infections and is being tube-fed. But no, his 'elective' surgery is being put off while doctors sit idle waiting for the next two weeks to hit.

Yes. They are falling.

And DMV hospitals are still well under capacity. Same for hospitals across Maryland.

Most of the medical profession is idle and furloughed. We are not running out of ventilators or ICU beds.

Angry doctor is angry because there wasn't enough PPE as if we had years to plan for a massive virus outbreak. Most other countries with lavish socialized medical systems also don't have PPE systems. I understand why he's angry, but he's also whining. Everyone is suffering to some degree from this virus, from job loses to financial losses to health issues. He's not special or unique. And he signed up for a profession that did warn him he might be on the front lines someday.

we actually did have years to plan for this ... the lack of PPE is criminal.

Not criminal for sure. No laws were broken. Given the global lack of PPE even in other developed countries with national health care, you're just resorting to too-convenient hindsight.

I worked as a nurse in critical care for 10 yrs and recall needing an N95 mask, maybe twice, and that was out of an abundance of caution when diagnosis was still being made. Almost always, a plain surgical mask was enough, if a mask was needed. And even those, it was minimally needed here and there during flu season.

Thank you for all you do. Please ignore the brutally honest ignoramuses who do not understand how dysfunctional and politicized the US health care system is and how unprepared the government was for this pandemic. Having non medically-trained ideologues (who often do not even believe in science) making major public health decisions and running health insurance programs has had disastrous consequences for all of us.

You did not sign up for inadequate medical equipment and protective attire. You did not sign up for 14 hour days for weeks on end. Many of you are probably high risk individuals yourself and yet fulfilling your professional oaths to provide optimal heal care that involves being very close to infected persons and unable to change ppp masks gowns and gloves between patients. Your immune systems are probably further compromised by lack of sleep and stress. Those of you who are less busy, thank you anyway for contributing to patient care.

The level of disrespect and callousness towards your current professional challenges that extend to your families is disgusting. I believe that the vast majority of us are very appreciative of your efforts and also those who are keeping essential services going during the pandemic (grocery store workers, trash collectors, police etc.).

Thank you, thank you thank you and may God bless you and keep you and your families safe, and your collective morale up.

Yes — thank you all medical and essential services workers. Most of us truly appreciate your sacrifices and work. You would not be human if you did not complain sometimes. We all do and you have many good reasons to right now. Please take care of yourselves and your families.

Agree. My surgeon DH has had to tell patients he can't take out their cancer and doesn't know when he will be able to now. He has been home not working for over 2 weeks and has nothing at all scheduled for another 2 weeks at least

Why do I feel OP is stoking the flames and her DW isnt a doctor. If he is a doctor I want his name to make sure I never see him if sick

This is just nasty and for no good reason. The OP seemed very legit to me. Who wouldn’t be stressed if they were on the front lines of this pandemic? I don’t understand all the disrespect to heroes and heroines of our times,
