And, by the demographics that they themselves report, they have very low percentages of at-risk, special ed or economically disadvantaged kids. 45% white, 38% black. As stated above, their demographics are not at all reflective of the DC public school student population.

It would be a failure to have them reflective of the DC public school student population, because they would then have zero diversity.

This. With all due respect to 8:01, I have the yearbooks, too. While the number of black boys in PK3 and PK4 seems reasonable, as you get into the middle-elementary years, the "diversity" becomes very skewed, and the number of black boys relative to other demographic groups starts to dwindle before picking back up toward the middle school years, as white students start to leave.

Not surprising if you look at the stats. The percentage of black students at ITS who perform at or above grade level is less than half of that for white students for ELA and less than a quarter for math. If you look at the most recent Equity Report, the suspension rate for black students is MORE THAN 6 TIMES HIGHER than for white students.

Not bashing on ITS, but just to point out that it's not the bee's knees for everyone.

I can appreciate that. I’m just saying that my AA child is thriving there and I am happy that he’s in a majority minority setting that matches our neighborhood and his out of school network.

Individual schools have them and it's up to them to distribute. Call your school.

Have folks recorded their scores yet? Our upper NW school has not mailed them out yet.

Any Brent families received scores either in mail or from office directly?

Our 5th grader's ELA results went down, when compared to achieving percentage by school. Anyone else have this happen to their kid? What did you attribute it to?

I really wish there was a breakdown or description of what all the scores were comprised of, and what section(s) of the test weren't as strong. The report is so weak as to be unusable.

That information is on page 2 of the report - you can see where your child performed better or worse, such as in writing compared to reading, or with vocabulary. https://osse.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/osse/publication/attachments/ELA_English.pdf

But it would be better to talk to your child's teacher about it.

My third grader got a 4 in ela and a 5 in math and I'm kind of bummed! I was always a phenomenal test taker and I had hoped she would get that skill from me. Oh well I will get over it by tomorrow I'm sure.

I would focus more on whether the actual PARCC score increased or decreased. If it decreased, that would give me more pause than just a decrease in percentage of kids your child had a higher score than.

If it increased (even though the percentage decreased), your kid 'grew' but it sounds like your kid 'grew' less than the other kids.
