I am not a Larissa fan. However, knowing she will blow up, he purposely leaves the receipts of recently purchased porn movies out and about so that she can find them.
What about going to buy a new car, just to say that he cannot afford it. Same with the apartment -- once she likes a thing, he tells her they cannot afford it.
He was purposely doing all kinds of things to trigger her anger.

They are a case of when loud crazy (larissa) intersects with quiet crazy (colt). Larissa must have been majorly desperate to live in America to hook up with a thirty something lumpty dude with cats who lives with his mother.
