Beauvoir

Basic question, but does Beauvoir go through 2nd or 3rd? Do the kids need to reapply to NCS or STA? Do most get in?

For real? I mean not to be too rude, but why not type a school's name into Google? Or maybe even look at some of the threads on the first page of this Board like "Beauvoir", "Beauvoir", and "Getting into St. Albans?".

I'll answer. It goes through 3rd and you have to apply to NCS and STA.

Not everyone is consumed with Beauvoir/St. Albans/NCS stats. It's a fair question. Would you have erupted this way with a question about when Sheridan School ends in a Sheridan thread?...and it was rude.

You "apply," but most are presumptively fed from Beauvoir onto NCS/STA.

What were numbers like for 2009?

A handful of Beauvior to NCS/STA kids were flat out rejected due to either behavior issues or poor testing not seen in K entry year.

There is simply no way you could know this.

Actually PP could know this if she heard it from the families. Beauvoir has a tendency of allowing pre-k/k behavioral issues to go undetected. Then, big surprise in 3rd grade when it becomes an admissions rec problem. Our graduating class had 3 boys rejected from STA due to behavioral/testing issues. Actually there was a 4th boy, but he was expelled Dec of third grade and didn't get all the way through the STA admissions process.

I agree with PP -- current Beauvoir parent -- its very apparent who didnt get in from our class. And in most cases you can deduce why.

Rather than "undetected," do you mean to say "unaddressed."?

It is too early to know the numbers as not all students choose to go on to NCS/STA; but it is safe to assume that about 85% of graduating class meaning 68 students (give or take a few) will go on to Beauvoir. There are usually few if any surprises about who doesn't get it to the Cathedral schools. If a student is struggling with Beavuoir academically or behaviorially when they are in the later years at the school (translation meaning Pre-K, K); then they very well may not be cut out for rigorous academics of NCS/STA. That being said, it is important to remember the vast majority of Beauvoir graduates get into NCS/STA. The acceptance rate from Beauvoir is outstanding and incomparable to any other school in the metropolitan area where very likely only students in the very top 10% of their classes would make the cut.

Teachers or the counselor, no.

In the 3 boys cases our year, their issues were discussed end of 2nd grade/beginning of 3rd grade when it was too late.
