Just last week, on another thread, several other posters chewed you out for doing this, after they figured it out, which took a while.

In sum, stop pretending you don't understand the "resentful" poster's point: she resents YOUR DEBATING STYLE. It's not only sleazy. It's so transparently sleazy (most of us are pretty smart ourselves, you know) that everybody gets super frustrated.

This is exactly why I think it's a waste of effort to try to point out to this poster what the problem is. She's been told -- repeatedy. She has no interest in changing what she's doing. Basically, it's probably the best she can do.

So in the end, the best policy is to trust the intelligence of other readers, say what you have to say/enjoy whatever substantive discussion ensues, and ignore the noise and posturing. Anonymity obviously makes it harder to know whom you're ignoring when you ignore a dogmatic and belligerent post. But if a poster is sincere in wanting to engage, she can always find another way of doing so. (e.g. ask again in a less dismissive or inflammatory manner).

Now she's on the WPPSI=105 thread trying to parody our positions. I parodied her right back, but now I feel a little slimy myself, like I sunk to her level.

I agree, with your point on trying to maintain a civil discussion regardless.

IQ as measured by exercises like WPSSI and SAT.

V oxygen max as measured by exercises including exercise tolerance exams with spirometry.

Are Asian Americans more intelligent than other groups in the D.C. area (or nation)? A recent review of test performance (MD state, VA state, SAT averages, etc) put this group at the top of the heap. Does such incontrovertible performance on these aptitude tests indicate a higher intelligence? Or is this intellectual and academic performance largely due to a training effect? What component is due to training?

Much like the incredible V oxygen maximum of the cyclist Lance Armstrong?

There is data to suggest that training for an aptitude test like the SAT can result in up to a 300 point gain. There is also data emerging that training for the WPSSI (e.g., Aristotle Circle) can increase your IQ.

No need for reams of "data" links. This is accepted gospel. Look around you. Are you disputing Asians are not performing better than any other group on aptitude tests? Have you attended you children's schools recently? Have you seen the lists of those winning all the national competitions? Have you attended any of the magnet school classes or classes at TJ?

Now, given a much higher performance on aptitude tests (East coast, West coast, NE, South) do Asians have a genetically higher IQ than all other Americans? If not for lack of legacy, sibling preference, big donors and zip code Asians would occupy every seat in the D.C. area elite, private schools. Do Asians have a higher IQ than all other Americans? Are Asians therefore superior to all other Americans? Are all other Americans inferior to Asians (intellectually)?

Have you never heard of the Asian Tiger Mom? Do you not think there might be something to her that's related to the "enriched" environment that people here have been trying to discuss? I recall reading about a study that showed that Asian and other kids who grow up under similar identical environments have very similar IQs.

OK, now the nuts are taking over. This thread is dead.

If you can talk about aptitude tests and IQ and Asians score the highest on these aptitude tests I gather you nuts find it difficult to fathom Asians may have a higher IQ?

Loss of argument sends once proud dcummies to the hills!

Simpletons spend hours pasting links about aptitude tests and IQ but fall silent when their links about IQ and aptitude would conclude they are inferior to Asians since Asians have a higher IQ and better performance on aptitude tests in the D.C. area.

The training and practice component to aptitude tests completely blows their IQ arguments out of the waters.

The nuts you speak of are the real scientists, physiologists and physicians and not pseudo sociologists and psychologists ranting over IQs and their valid and reproducible scientific measurement?

I'm not the poster that you are upset with, but you might be interested in What is Intelligence? by James Flynn, a leading expert on intelligence. He suggests that when you adjust for SES, there isn't research supporting the idea that Asians are smarter. Older tests suggesting otherwise were flawed, because the tests that were used weren't current and therefore produced inflated scores.

Meant research.

I think I've read about this theory before. It was written in sh-t on the wall in a NYC subway restroom.

Empty barrels always make the most noise and nonsense.

Does this Flynn effect and issues of SES apply to Hispanics, Blacks and Whites? Or does it discriminate between these groups?

How apropos. Living proof of the Flynn effect.

Low SES but private school wannabe!
