Part of me wonders whether folks within the agency are intentionally providing him with misinformation as a form of silent protest against his leadership. Every single time he gets in front of the camera, he makes a fool of himself. Also, why does he overdress in FBI gear for the cameras? He dresses as if he just came off a crime scene, investigating something. The fact that his thoughts are clearly on what he will wear to look "FBI" for the cameras ought to communicate how unserious he is and that it's all for show.

He (Patel) is a joke and his handlers, being part of the Trump Administration, are half-assed incompetents. It's a pitiable combination, but it's funny.
