The law is very clear that slower vehicles must move right when the right lane is unobstructed. There is no ambiguity or nuance. |
I believe cyclists! |
The pictures don't lie. You can choose to ignore them, but it undermines your argument to do so. |
Cool story bro. Where is the picture of the driver running a yellow light? |
Driving on the wrong side of the road is a violation in the DC code. Why don't you do us all a favor and test this? The next time you are driving behind a cop car in the city, casually pull across the double yellow line and pass them. See what happens and report back. We'll be waiting. |
DC law: when there are two lanes, a slower moving vehicle must move to the right lane. Thanks for playing. |
You are now making up a new story. They were not passing over double yellow but driving on the wrong side. They didn’t run a red, they ran a yellow. Blah, blah, blah. No one believes you. |
When I was like 16 or 17, I sped up to make it through a light that turned yellow and got pulled over. The cop said I ran the red. I said I cleared it while it was yellow and I was still below the speed limit. He told me that it was illegal to *speed up* to beat a yellow light and that I'm supposed to instead slow down. I didn't fight the cop - I was like damn, didn't know that and now I do. Haven't done it since. |
Hah, pretty sure that PP here defending the SUV driver and blaming the cyclist for all of the woes of the world meets both of your conditions above. |
The SUV is on the wrong side of the road. Again... why don't you go test your theory! Take some dashcam footage of it. Please be sure to leave the audio on though, so we can hear the cop lecturing you on why you are wrong. |
Actually there is a very reasonable explanation for this. My garmin does this if I have auto-pause turned on. Best I can tell is that STRAVA uses some type of average calculation between GPS datapoints from the Garmin (or whatever bike computer is being used) and so when the garmin detects no movement and pauses, the "speed" doesn't actually go to 0 registered, just some low number. |
You’re now on version 3 or 4 of your story. All just to spare embarrassment of the truth. |
And you have still not provided any evidence that that the pass was illegal. Go figure. |
If you are riding in the left lane and not moving to the right lane when it’s unobstructed you are breaking the law. No one cares what post hoc justifications you make up to rationalize it because no one believes you. |
I am very curious as to your interpretation of the events depicted in the photo. If in your view the car did not run a yellow or a red light, then by process of elimination you must believe light must have been green when he passed through. However, for the light to have turned red while he was still in the intersection, three seconds must have elapsed. The intersection can't be more than 50 feet wide, which means that the car would have been doing at most 11 mph. If the car was doing 11 mph, how do you believe it managed to pass a cyclist going 16 mph? |
