Good question. "High expectations" sounds like someone who is good with suspending more special needs and Black students.

To be clear, “ High expectations” is a bad thing now ? Are we ok with Kenmore Middle talking about high expectations? Because here it is on APS website : https://kenmore.apsva.us/about/higher-expectations/

Of course high expectations are not a bad thing. The problem is what happens when those high expectations are not met. In some people's world, that means discipline for the black and brown and special needs kids.

Seems like a leap to go from he talks about high expectations to he wants to discipline black, brown, and special needs kids.

His own language states "put the supports in place for students to live up to those high expectations". Doesn't sound like RW "no excuses" BS talking points to me. My kid has a disability. I want more high expectations with proper supports instead of the well-meaning but low expectations and limited supports that means we have to rely on expensive tutors.

Maybe in your world. But you probably don't have a black/brown kid so this isn't a sensitive topic for you. Also that wasn't the worst thing on his website, the real problem is where he says diversity increases safety risks.

"The diversity of backgrounds has the potential to enrich the experience for all children. It also creates risks that children will fall behind or face safety risks due to bullying or juvenile behavior. "

What is untrue about that?
Isn't it clear that our more diverse schools don't have the same issues and academic performance as our wealthy homogenous schools? Isn't that why so many wealthier white people avoid poorer, more diverse schools - so their kids don't fall behind the Joneses in those wealthier schools? What is the bullying-rate between white kids v. the bullying rate between kids from different backgrounds?

Why don't you go ask Chen if he has this data since he's the one who posted it?

Quoting this is intentionally misleading so later viewers might mistakenly associate these claims with something Ling said.

What Ling actually says on his site is more in line with increasing social emotional learning. He says he will

“Continue fostering the educational approaches that teach emotional intelligence and encourage students to act as caring, compassionate members of society”.

Calling someone a racist is a serious claim. The sense that I got from the statement is that as we know, differences will lead to divides so we need to actively work to capitalize on diversity instead of letting it move people apart.

Is he really saying what I think he's saying? Diversity of backgrounds creates safety risks in his world!

oh please! 99% of the parents posting in this friend would bend over backwards to make sure their kid avoids diversity. Just one hint of an option school being removed and the loose their mind. No way are they sending their kid to school with any diversity. And of course they have BLM and live lives here signs in the yard. So spare the faux outrage

You left out the part that people think could be racist.

So clearly I find this annoying. But, I'm curious, do some people find his posts appealing?

I find it funny that he’s lecturing people who have been APS advocates for years. And watching others shut him down gives me life. He has absolutely no clue. About APS or about how social media even works.

Have a little humility FFS. Many of us have been very engaged/volunteered for 10+ years.

Because - other than perhaps some special needs kids - black and brown kids shouldn't be held to those high expectations, or aren't capable of them?

Are you completely unaware in your privileged bubble of the disproportionality in discipline of black kids and especially black boys? which would appear to indicate that they are being held to different standards?

Lowering standards isn't the answer. Fixing the problem of not enforcing and disciplining consistently across student groups is.

You can't just burst on the scene and all of a sudden be an expert. If he's going to engage on social media, try to learn something from people who have volunteered for APS (even before the pandemic) before prescribing solutions to everything. As he is seeing, even on his own g-d website, he's getting it mostly wrong. This goes for Zuraya too, but she's not trying to show everyone else up online.

Plus 1000. This is why I can't ever vote for him. It's not just that he doesn't know anything, it's that he THINKS he knows everything and is lecturing the rest of us with zero self awareness.

A lot of parents on here with some really fragile egos. Please share where candidates need to line up to kiss the ring.

I guess my standards are just higher than yours. You don't think candidates should put in work and effort before suddenly declaring themselves qualified to govern your kid's school system. I feel differently.

Something tells me you have no idea how hard this is to fix and have never engaged in this work. You probably oppose DEI too!

Only because they hated Miranda so much and those were the only two choice.
