23% sales tax? WTAF? |
The debate on what women could wear was in the Missouri State House. https://news.yahoo.com/outrage-missouri-lawmakers-dress-code-002600778.html |
Your reaction is mostly the point of these proposals. When you have to pay that much on a daily basis to fund your government, it puts spending in perspective. |
Across the board sales taxes disproportionately hurt the poor. That’s who I’m concerned about, not the billionaires who don’t want to pay taxesn wah wah big babies. |
It’s great if you’re rich and spend a relatively small percentage of your income and wealth. Sucks to be poor |
It’s way stupider than that. It’s really 30%, applies to everything - houses, surgery, etc. that aren’t covered by state sales taxes, and they are counting revenue from the federal government paying 30% tax to itself for all the goods and services that it buys. It was designed by Scientology when they were fighting the IRS. |
+1 Can we go back to the days of 90% income taxes on the wealthiest Americans? |
No, that was an absolutely terrible time for the American economy in the late 40s through early 60s. That wasn't a time when the middle class exploded and the American worker enjoyed enormous gains in their standard of living. When people think of the 50s, the totally look at the economic stagnation in the US. |
It is kind of ironic that the GOP wants to revert nearly everything back to the 1950s (race relations, women's rights, etc.), but they most definitely don't want this aspect of the 50s. |
Not really. It just means the super wealthy can buy whatever they want and be slightly annoyed by the 23% tax reminding them they actually have a government that needs money to function, while the rest of us have to cut all purchases to the bare minimum. |
