All true stories about Coach Jharred at VA Jrs…

1) Has moles/friends snap pictures at restaurants of volleyball families enjoying evenings together. One case in point…

This one is really creepy so please read!!!

One night we were out at a bar with a family whose daughter was on the same travel volleyball team as our daughter. Our 6’ 2” daughter (3rd season at VAJ and being watched by Yale coaches) had already quit the team halfway through the season for several reasons (new private school 75 minutes away had a strict quarantine policy, fourth “surprise” Middle added to the team after tryout selections were made, unreal expectations, favoritism, and so much more). The mole at the bar snapped a picture of our families and texted it to Jharred. Jharred then reached out to the other daughter via text and said AND I QUOTE “Why is your family out with the BLANK family???”

2) Recruits way too many players for one team! Four Middles on one team is an AWFUL strategy! Probably how Liz (owner) is recouping losses from the 2020 season.

3) Makes his own teammates turn on each other due to playtime challenges with that many girls on one roster. He’s even gossiped poorly to his OWN rostered athletes about their teammates. Very divisive!

4) Treats “specific” athletes like they are his gal pals! Those athletes get the most playtime despite a lower skill level.

Avoid Coach Jharred’s team like it’s the plague!!!

Sounds toxic. My daughter is perfectly content playing for Tier 3 and 4 teams. She just loves volleyball and wants to play in the winter. All this stuff going on at the top sounds like more grief than it’s worth.

I agree but it’s also going on at lower tier clubs too I’m sad to say.

Interesting that Metro is NOT on this list….. why is that? Not very useful IMO at all but it could be once clubs on this list get more than 2 or 3 reviews per club.

Metro isn't on the list because the site specifically targets clubs that are based in Northern VA. Metro is based in Washington, DC.

But isn't Metro South mostly a Virginia team?

True, but not with the same intensity or desperation, because the stakes are much higher in Tiers 1 & 2. But definitely drama at every level.

Understood however at the time this website was introduced weren’t they practicing in Herndon and sometimes in Springfield? There’s also a Metro South (I know they’re regional however other clubs on this list had regional teams as well.

How are the Metro 14 and 15 teams looking this season? Heard they added some additional talents. Our teams beat them last season, so just want to know what’s the expectation this season.

Depends on what you're thinking about, whether it's the travel or regional teams. (And who "our teams" represent). Plus, when I think about this for different teams, I take a look at last year's rankings for the 13 and 14 teams, and consider if the players stayed in the same club or have moved around. I suppose if someone had the time and began looking at players and player combinations, look at stats, and track them over time, it should be a fascinating look.

Must be talking about the Regional teams. Both VAJrs and Paramount's 13s team beat metro 13 travel last season, and I know that Paramount 15s beat Metro 14 Travel at MAPL. Other than that, I don't think Metro 13T or Metro 14T lost to any other local CHRVA teams.

Metro 13 T lost the first match but at regionals demolished Paramount 13s. Metro 13 T lost to VA Jrs only once. But if they would have circled back Metro 13T would have won. People's facts are all wrong on this forum. But this is entertaining.

Right, grasping at any straws to put them on the same level as Metro. That said, I hear that 18s will be interesting this year - Paramount made significant upgrades and Metro just added some bench players. It was close without the upgrades last year.

Lol. "Facts." You're the one hypothesizing about what "would" happen if the teams played again, as if a "would" is a fact. Metro 13 T split with Paramount last season. Last time I checked, I think that would mean neither team can take credit as being better since they were 1-1 against each other. VAJrs 13 beat Metro handily, but only played once. Paramount 13s were the only other CHRVA team to beat VAJrs 13s, albeit only one time (they lost to them multiple other times). Nobody can argue that VAJrs 13s team had the most successful season of any CHRVA team in that age group. This season will be very different since Jrs lost 2 of their best players to Metro, which should make that Jrs. team significantly worse. I've heard Paramount brought in a good chunk of new talent to their 14s team, so Metro 14T and Paramount 14s should have some good battles this season to see which team will be the most dominant in the region.

+1 That's what I've heard, too, and what I'm looking forward to this season. Paramount 17s and Metro 17T went 1-1 against each other last season, with Metro beating Paramount relatively easily in Cap Classic Championship match and Paramount beating Metro relatively easily in CHRVA Regionals Championship Match. I don't think either of those teams will face each other in a CHRVA Regionals Championship match again, as I anticipate both of those teams will have already secured Open Bids by the time Regionals comes around. They should have some good battles at the National Qualifiers though.
