Yup, msg is pure umami and it’s delicious! Not sure what your parenthetical pork is for though? I think mushroom first for the flavour and msg itself is vegan. |

I have many, but perhaps the Most controversial is: corned beef or pastrami on rye with mayo.
More than once, in different delis, I’ve had to argue with the counter guy to get this. |
+1. Toss a slice of cheddar on a griddle and a slice of American, see which one is greasier. I love both, by the way. But I don't love a greasy grilled cheese as much as I love one made with a mix of Americans and cheddar. ... with jalapenos and some toasted cashews, maybe a few bits of feta. On thick bread. And dipped in hummus. |
There’s a Jewish deli in Fairfax near fair oaks mall and they will refuse to put Mayo on a corned beef sandwich. Like it’s a printed rule in the menu lol |
Did you just say you put cashews in your grilled cheese and dip it in hummus |
Wow! I admire their commitment! Lol Maybe I should check them out. I’ve managed to get it in Baltimore and at various places in NYC, so I’m up for the challenge! |
MSG is not delicious. It's a flavor enhancer. |
I mean yes? So is salt. And vanilla extract. Both of which are also delicious? |
Sorry to split hairs but no hairs but on their own no they are not delicious. They, like my beloved msg, are not delicious on their own but make things delicious. And nice job comparing msg to salt and vanilla. Excellent analogy imo. |
| Costco rotisserie chickens are gross. Really really gross. |
Uh, no. MSG is a flavor ENHANCER. Vanilla is a flavor. Salt is a taste. MSG is neither. Have you tried it? |
All Costco food is gross. Full of seed oils and corn syrup. Cheap slop for slobs. |
You are both pedantic idiots. |
MSG has NO FLAVOR. Unlike salt and vanilla. MSG merely makes fish fishier, meat meatier, etc. It enhances the flavors that are there. It adds no flavor of its own. It is not delicious. This is a forum about food and cooking and eating. If this topic is pedantic and idiotic to you, why are you on the cooking forum? |

If everyone ate three square meals a day (basic home cooked food) and didn't snack in between meals, we wouldn't have an obesity crisis
