Why can't DC have it's act together like NYC?

Mayor bloomberg just announced schools would be closed tomorrow giving parents almost 24 hours to find care for their kids and to get their affarirs together. Maybe I will be proved wrong but I bet DC waits until 5am tomorrow to let us know about the schools. With the accuracy of weather forecasting these days it should be a no-brainer to decide early.

DC schools are a mess. I send my kid to one and teach in one, so I am talking about on an individual level, as I know that there are great particular schools and teachers. But the district itself feels that it has so much to prove/make up for. So instead of taking a sensible approach they will 'do whats best for kids' by acting like they will move forward with school.
That being said, they will likely NOT cancel school for monday. See the thread about 'will schools be closed'.

Closed tomorrow

Because it's DC. 'Nuff said.

DC is closed tomorrow however, I received an email from The Washington Post not DCPS although they seem to send out emails when there isn't enough time to plan

got it. Why doesn't DCPS update its website to indicate the schools are closed?

I am DCPS teacher and we just got an email from DCPS that we are closed tomorrow and it is on the DCPS facebook page, but not their own homepage, so I feel it is safe to believe, but it is always a good rule of thumb with DCPS not to believe it until they actually say something

That was a rhetorical question

Yeah DC should use NYC as barometer that's the ticket. It worked extremely well under Rhee. [sarcasm shrug]

Why do people keep comparing the resources of a city with 10 MILLION PEOPLE and a city with the ability to set a budget without having to kowtow to UNELECTED overseers for a bleeping needle exchange in the city with highest HIV rates....

Just had to blow off some steam there.

What I meant to say was that on Friday, our DCPS school's regular weekly notice had in the first paragraph was a warning that school might be closed both days and all the ways to stay in contact via twitter, text, FB, good ol' phone, etc.

There are a lot of things to complain about with DCPS, but this is not one of them.

Stay safe all!

No she doesn't read this board but her staff does. There's an employee who is responsible for all social media outlets.
