Andre Chreky salon

I desperately need a good hair cut. Can anyone recommend a good stylist at Andre Chreky?

Thanks!

I've had two of the worst haircuts of my life at Andre Chreky. Granted, this was years ago, but I think I'm still emotionally scarred! I thought maybe I just had a bad stylist (or maybe the stylist just had a bad day), so that's why I went back for a second time. But the second time, my stylist tried to squeeze in a second client (who was supposed to be the client before me but was 45 minutes late)...she ended up cutting our hair side by side and doing a terrible job on both of us.

I later went to another salon in the city opened by a former Andre Chreky employee who told me that Andre sometimes plucks stylists from Hair Cuttery! (No offense to Hair Cuttery, but if I'm spending Andre Chreky money, I don't want a Hair Cuttery haircut!)

I still don't understand why there's so much hype around this salon. I think it's overpriced and the customer service left a lot to be desired.

I can't recommend Andre Chreky -- I tried them twice for cut/highlights, and I wasn't pleased either time. They didn't do anything terribly wrong to my hair, but they didn't do a great job either. The haircuts didn't grow out well, and the highlights were okay but certainly not even close to as good as I am used to getting. The first time I was willing to think that maybe I just hadn't been specific enough about what I wanted, but I went back and was very specific and they still didn't get it quite right. (And I have healthy hair and a pretty basic cut -- a bob.)

Thanks for the feedback. I was going to try it because it's close to my office, but I'll look elsewhere.

Unfortunately, I also had a bad cut at Andre Chreky. They did a good job with color and blowing it out, but after I specifically said "no layers" (in my long curly hair), he did it anyways and my hair was completely triangular.

I tried them and had 2 very bad experiences after 1 initial good experience. The cut I got was good, but the service was just terrible. Horrible wait times, snotty staff. The 3rd time I went in, I left without getting my haircut. They told me to wait in a particular chair, and that the stylist would be with me shortly. I kept waiting and waiting... nobody came to get me. Everytime I asked when my stylist would be ready for me I was told "soon." Finally after waiting over an hour I told them I was going to leave if he didn't see me soon. They got very nasty with me, and said I'd been waiting in the wrong area, and that he was cutting another client's hair because "I'd made him wait so long for me." It was pretty frustrating. When I told them I was waiting in the area they told to wait in, they said that was where I was supposed to relax until I was ready to go see the stylist, and I was apparently supposed to go upstairs when I was ready.

There was a huge expose on Andre Chreky in the City Paper (I think) a couple of yrs ago. Sexual harassment, etc.

Another poster who was not impressed with Andre Chreky.

Count me in. The place is a cattle call. Chreky himself is a real bastard. Rodney Pinnion is a gem though. Still, I wouldn't go there.

Even their eyebrow lady is no good -- she made mine uneven!

I have always had good luck with Bubbles, and I had a great, if a bit overpriced, haircut at Shears near McPherson sq.

I have not had my hair cut there but about 7 years ago someone gave me a gift certificate for a massage and mani pedi there. It was a totally strange situation. The therapist did not leave the room when I changed even though I asked her to and I basically took a dive under the sheet in my undies.

Then when I was face up she lifted up the sheet and went and did a long stroke down my front from my shoulders to stomach. I told her not to and she did stop. I have had hundres of massages all over the country and have never had that happen before or since.

Needless to say...I would never go back there for anything. And in general I just did not like the atmosphere there.

I really liked andre's cuts years ago but it was costing me $300 with coloring. Just not worth it. Has anyone tried one80salon?
