Wet Hair Irks

Anonymous
I don't get this, I simply don't. Every day I ride the metro. Every day I see hundreds of women with soaking wet hair and full make up on. Whyyyy? Do you know how disgusting it feels to have someone else' hair pressing against you and your clothes? I am a woman, I also wash my hair every day, but I blow dry it or air dry it AT HOME. Yes, I also put on make up at home. It really doesn't take THAT long.

Fight the laziness!!!

I grew up swimming competitively and never, never, never blowdry my hair. I mean, never. Unless I am at the salon and the lady does it for me. So, this is, I guess, once every 3/4 months? So, after years of having to hop out of the pool, shower and dress and be out at the bus 15 mins. after getting out of the pool, you learn to pare down your routine to the bare, and I mean BARE, essentials!

PS And my hair is so healthy, too, b/c of this lack of blow-drying, I think. Every time I do have other people touch my hair, they are like, "It's soo soft!!!!" I literally think I will be like 80 years old and still doing "wash-and-go"!

I have curly hair and let it air dry. So yes, sometimes when I get on Metro it's still wet. But don't worry, I'm not pressing it up against you or anyone else.

I sit down and eat breakfast and drink a cup of tea in the morning, after the carpool leaves with the kids.

This allows me to be a little more relaxed and happy on my metro ride. I suppose if I was rushing to get through my beauty routine, I might also be pointlessly mean and judgmental about stuff that has no effect on my life.

Why is their hair touching you??

I have curly hair and I never blow dry it. So sorry.

I don't get your phobia. It's hair, not toxic waste.

I don't blow dry my hair unless I'm straightening it. And I don't straighten it. Therefore my hair is wet after I wash it.

Another curly haired person who doesn't blow dry, unless my hair is too long in which case I have to otherwise it will stay wet all day. It looks a million times better without blow drying. But like the other PPs, there's not a chance I'd be pressed against anyone on the metro - I don't care whether your hair is wet or dry.

Yes, why are you touching their hair? I have been on many crowded metro rides, and I've never had this problem.

Another curly-haired woman here. I have not blown dry my hair since HS. I shower, put hair products in it, and head out. When it's cold, I twist it up and put a hat on, or my head will freeze. When I am on the metro, my head is not touching anyone!

And FWIW, if you are so close to others that heir hair is pressing up against you, why would it matter if it was wet or dry hair? Wouldn't you be equally phobic? I mean, with wet hair you can at least assume it's clean!

I am actually jealous of people who can get away with not drying their hair and still look half decent. I have two cowlicks on the top of my head, and look like I just rolled out of bed (even if I air dry my hair) if I do not wash and dry my hair EVERY DAY.

Woa! It's 1985. Unless you have seriously short hair, or Kate (from Kate and 8) why are you blowing out your hair? I don't get that. I see so many women with seriously damaged hair, all I can think is - get your over processed, gross, damaged hair away from me.

OP, maybe if YOU spent less time under a blow drier, you may be less intense.

Yep, us curlies don't blow dry. We try to blot out as much moisture as possible and are very sorry that any remaining liquid is so offensive.

Another one who's wondering how their hair is touching you. I would think dry hair would be more fly-away and more prone to reach out and grab you.
