Also keep in mind that Franklin is projected to be at 80% capacity following an upcoming renovation (Look at document pages 61-65): https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/pdf/Adopted-Capital-Improvement-Program-FY-2026%E2%80%9330.pdf Another reason to simply leave Franklin alone as an Oakton feeder. |
The idea of a 5% split feeder is just breathtakingly cruel and my kid would be in that 5%. There's no way they would actually do this, right? I can't even believe this is on the table. |
They said a split feeder is any place where less than 25% goes to one ms/hs - that helps clarify there will still be split feeders in places which is fine. |
These new split feeders they are creating will be addressed and changed via the next round of proposed changes after 4/25. The focus at that meeting is split feeders. |
These previous BRAC meeting had split feeders identified but didn’t have percentage stats. The next meeting on 4/25 will provide those proposed changes |
This is just the start. Next, they’ll do split feeders. And finally, capacity on 5/5. What a warmup |
Wow. We used to live in the neighborhood that currently serves graham, pine spring, and timber lane. I bet many are waking up very unhappy with this Tetris. |
I wonder if this would make that island Oak Hill/Franklin/Chantilly? Or Oak Hill/Franklin/Oakton? Doesn’t all of Oak Hill go to Chantilly? How will that work if Chantilly is so crowded? It’s a small number of kids in that island but still… |
That was not an issue with our region. Our attendance islands are completely within one region and there is no logical change of boundaries that would involve another region. We did not do an all meeting recap. Our feedback was all written down and we did not share that feedback with the other regions. |
Oh man there are definitely some Oakton elementary parents that are upset today with the suggested map putting a good chunk to flint hill. |
Why wouldn’t they make that entire neighborhood go to Graham road? Those weird offshoots across Graham Road and then the random chunk crossing 50 for west lawn. Again, this is what we get for consultants that are not local. |
So is their starting point for the 4/25 meeting the existing boundaries or the boundaries they create with the 4/11 scenarios? You seem confident it’s the latter but I’m not so sure. If they start with the boundaries in the 4/11 materials that’s not a “scenario” so much as a first step. It looks like a big mess so far, TBH. Remind me again why we are going to this trouble, when so far the proposed solutions would create as many issues as they would address. |
There are a good chunk of Flint Hill parents upset about Oakton. That switch makes no sense. The boundaries look odd, I’ll give you that. But, the bus routes make sense. And it doesn’t change anything. |
Not all of Oak Hill currently goes to Chantilly. There is a small island that goes to Westfield. |
Do we think they’ll start the “split feeder” step by starting with these maps that fix the attendance islands? Or will they start from the existing/currently in force maps, fix the split feeders to the extent possible, and then try to reconcile later with the attendance island fixes? |
