when a car dealer quotes a price "OTD" or "out the door"

When they quote a price as an out the door price, this means it includes taxes, tags, freight and processing, right? As in, there is not a penny more we have to pay to take the car out the door?

get it in writting, and don't fall for the old this is my final price. pay 12-15% below the top price on the sticker, nto the bottom price

I dunno, why don't you ASK the SALESMAN?

the salesman replied "yes it includes everything" but i am skeptical of car salesmen.

OTD is everything

And if they are bullshitting you and you get a higher number, get up and walk. There are other cars and other dealers.

Were their lips moving? Yes, you've got to be ready to walk.

I have to give them a non refundable deposit to order the car (it's not one they have in stock) which is why I want to be sure.

Before you give them a penny, get the entire price written up.

And be prepared to play hardball when someone *remembers* a fee or tax or surcharge. Sure, some places and people are honest, but it is better to be prepared. Do not take no for an answer on getting the final price in writing.

Op again. I have walked out of dealerships before... I'm not new to buying a car. I know I have the upper hand, which is why I negotiated what i think is an amazing price. When I told another dealer (to get him to beat it) he said there was no way he could beat the price I was given and that they were certain it could not be the real "everything" price or they would be losing money, especially since it was a car they didn't have in stock, and he warned me that I should be weary of the deal. I realize that dealer has an interest in steering me away from the deal to his dealership, but given all I had was an email that quotes my "out the door" price and then another reply that says "yes it includes everything" I want to be sure before I write a check for the deposit.

So I should get the price written up broken down by each piece?

You should not give them a check for anything until they write you up a detailed invoice.

Never give a deposit unless, as noted, it is given for a fully written up Purchase Order that has the "Out the Door" price as the bottom line.

It could be true if they're expecting to take profit somewhere else, i.e. financing, trade-in, extended warranty, undercoating... Although I don't know if any of those things apply to you.
