why is my stomach so huge?

Anonymous
I have, all of a sudden since the birth of my second child one year ago, become that mom who just looks FAT and dumpy. With my first, the weight fell off. Im now 35 and I just look huge. Much of the weight is concentrated around my stomach- I used to have large (D or DD) breasts; now my stomach sticks out farther than my boobs and my boobs for the first time in my life seem TOO small.

I'm trying to loose weight but it's like my metabolism has ground to a halt.

Is this normal? I hate the fact that I went from being on the normal side (to thinnish side, if i worked at it) before my second pregnancy to looking like my mother's dumpy suburban friends who are in their 50s and 60s overnight.

Get your thyroid checked? It is often a side effect of childbirth.

After that, ditch carbs.

Right there with you, I could have written your post. (In fact, I think I might have written it a few months ago). Sadly I have nothing to recommend. I just started running but it hasn't helped yet. Stomach still huge.

You are so nice. Well, you know what awaits you in 15 years. "DESTINY! DESTINY! NO ESCAPING THAT"...

Sorry to tell you, but it's gonna take heavy exercise and semi-starvation. That's the reality.

Also, stay away from processed foods and anything packaged in plastic.

BPAs, endocrine disruptors, makes men into women and women into big fat women.

Anyone else noticed the upswing in man-boobs at the pool? Sometimes on skinny men. Try to control what you eat and where your food came from.

This might be necessary if you want to be SKINNY, but if you want to be a normal, healthy weight you don't have to go to such extremes.

I haven't been skinny since college, but I maintained a healthy weight. After my first, I easily lost the weight and then some. After my second I held on to all of the weight, esp. in my stomach area.

Once I weaned the baby and the weight wasn't going away, I decided to do something about it. I run 3 days/ week, do weights 2 days/ week, cut back on portion size, reduced carb intake. The weight comes off slowly but it is happening. I am a few pounds away from my goal weight, which is within healthy BMI. And believe me, I don't have genetics on my side-- every woman in my family is overweight. And I am 41.

I am not going to be skinny, but I am going to be healthy, and people don't think I'm still pregnant anymore!

Once you hit 35 your metabolism goes in the toilet.

In my case I was JUST like the OP. However I alwasy had small tits which made my stomach look that much worse.

It took my metabolism a FULL 2 years after baby #2 to start working again properly. I took up running and now I can eat much much more than in the past. I also lost a total of 35lbs. I'd love to lose 10 more (which would put me in a size 2), but i must say, I look amazing from where I've come from. To lose those extra 10lbs would take strict diet control, but I think I'll hang on to the extra 10lbs and enjoy some Chineese carry-out from time to time.

I am like you and OP (except I, like OP, have the big boobs.) There is something hard about baby #2 on the body. It will come off and it does take 2 years almost. I have had to exercise a lot and really watch what I eat. I only gained 25 lbs during pregnancy too. I am also 40 (cue sobbing in 4, 3, 2..). Lose it before you turn 40 or get deep into your 40s because it becomes MUCH harder as you age!!

OP, did you have that thing where your stomach muscles essentially split when you were pregnant? I hear this happening sometimes to women on their 2nd, 3rd + pregnancies and it's nearly impossible to fully correct without surgery. Your comment that your stomach sticks out further than your boobs is what makes me wonder if that's what's going on.

This frightens me. I'm 8 weeks pregnant with dc2 and my stomach is huge already. I was always a pear shape so its disconcerting. There's a woman in my office whose stomach is so disproportionately huge that I keep thinking she's pregnant even though I know she's pushing 50.

Nothing will complete fix it but a tummy tuck sorry to say. Had my last almost 4 years ago, and I still have the bulge.
