| Yes, yes, I'm a troll, mean person, etc. But seriously, we have family in Vienna so spend quite a bit of time there and it just amazes me the frumpiness of the moms. Standard outfit this summer seemed to be bermuda shorts (which only look good on 6' tall models) plain t-shirts and cheap flip flops. No make up, hair a mess. What gives? To women move to Vienna to give up? |
| Yep, you're mean. I hope no one deigns to answer your questions. |
| The women of Vienna tend to be very chic in my experience. There were some very hot spells in Europe this summer, though, so maybe they were caught off guard and threw on whatever was comfortable, not caring what your frumpy American ass thought about them. |
hmmm.... you are kidding, right? |
I assume she means Vienna, VA not Vienna, Austria. But perhaps I am wrong . . . |
| OP--your post is ridiculous. I am SAHM that doesn't live in Vienna but is from Bethesda. I have visited parks in McLean, Burke, Fairfax, Vienna, Bethesda, DC-etc. SAHM's vary in their clothes everywhere. I include myself in that bunch. SAHMs don't always have the opportunity to make their "outfit" a priority. I will put on a nice outfit and it might get messed up with food or other kid-related messes by 11 am. So I will throw on something else and then maybe its time to go to the park. And no, I don't make my children wait to go to the park so I can get all dolled up. Or maybe I am working on a messy project and don't think it is worthwhile to put on fancy clothes to go the park. I think SAHMs in Vienna and EVERYWHERE else are just like me. You are a tool. |
| wonder what OP would think of me: I'm a frumpy WOHM from Vienna |
| Hmmm.. guess I don't qualify for my "Vienna Moms" card because I wear a version of that outfit but style my hair and put on makeup. |
| Another frumpy WOHM mom here - I dress up for work and school events - weekends are downtime. |
|
I agree with you, OP. A lot of women in the DC area seem to think that if you take time with your appearance, you're vapid, arrogant, an air-head, a trophy-wife, etc.
Really sad that so many think that in order to appear intelligent, you have to look like a hag. |
You are missing the point. Nobody is attempting to look smart by dressing down. They dress down/pay less attention to looks because they have a lot of other things going on in their lives that take up the time you are putting into shopping and makeup. That often means they are smart. Smart people generally tend to be involved in a lot of things. |
Me too! I cannot wait to get home and get into a comfy T-shirt and sweatpants - sans underwear! If I'm heading out with the kids, I'll put on underwear, but that's about it! |
Yeah, sure.
Like I said, ugly=smart to lots of DC area women. It takes about 10 minutes to comb your hair and put on a bit of makeup. No one is so rushed that they can't make this effort on the weekend. |
| It's not that I'm that rushed but I really don't care what randmon women think about my looks. Not on my radar. |
It's not what random women think. It's reality. You look like a hag. Where is your self pride? Don't you think you're worth the effort? |
