I don't see anyone calling people racist who just don't like long bus rides. If you take it personally when someone who is being racist is called out, that's a you problem.

Well then you haven’t read the thread.

If you see it, then feel free to quote it. I have read the thread.

UMD, in particular, is getting incredibly competitive for kids from W schools. I know lots of kids who assumed it was a safety who ended up not getting admitted. And it's even more extreme when you're aiming at elite private universities.

If you're zoned for Einstein or Woodward instead of WJ, count it as a blessing.

This is my logic and one reason why we never moved. There is a smaller cohart of top students and these school only take in so many students from each school. I think Woodward will have more high achieving students if they are taking 800 or so from WJ. Einstein doesn't attract top students with the DCC as they don't have high level classes.

That’s true is you see the purpose of high school as getting into college. If you see it as actually educating your kid, then having a larger cohort of high-achieving kids is critical.

+1 purpose is not to just get into the best college.

Also, if einstein does not have high level of math course then situation looks poor for Woodward with some boudary options having more FARMS than Einstein.

Einstein is an IB school, so they have IB courses and fewer APs. There's no indication yet whether Woodward will be IB.

This thread was actually useful for a few pages, can we get back to that?

Let's focus on coming up with the good solutions and if we can make it better collectively.

When the most well resourced people have a financial incentive to maintain segregation, we are not going to find solutions that benefit everyone

How is implying that everyone in west county is a segregationist helpful?

Lol in what way does the above imply that? It is simply a true statement that people zoned for West county schools benefit financially from segregation. That is not a dig at you. Many people, including me, have benefited from racism. That's the entire point of racism.

I personally don't care about demographics, distance (I can drive my kid), ranking at this point, but I know my kid and I care about his mental well being. If we are moved to Woodward, all his friends (based on current proposals) will stay in WJ. I know it will have negative effect on him, so as a loving parent, I am concerned, but pretty much have no choice

Feel the same way about my kid who will be starting 10th grade when this all happens. I’m fine if my school changes from Whitman to WJ for my much younger kid, but not for my child who will be separated from all their current close friends if they are moved to WJ in 10th. I think that can have a big impact on a teens mental health, and MCPS should factor that in.

It isn't racism. People just want to send their kids to the best performing school they can.

Ib is not equal to ap.

Why don't you propose a solution which makes things better? Let's hear it. Let's not get into who wants what. Let's just focus on discussing various ideas.

Numerous people on this thread have suggested it is better for everyone to segregate predominately Black and Brown low income from predominantly White and Asian high income kids. When that is part of the discussion, it needs to named and called out.

Yes, and they benefit financially in the form of increased and faster growing property values. If there weren't such huge differentials in demographics, the real estate market would be very different

Care to post a link in this thread by numerous people. I did read the thread but did not see anyone proposing that. I may have missed.

If our goals are different then the solutions we want will be different and that's okay. Talking about what people want is helpful. Of course everyone wants short distances to school. Everyone wants their kid to stay with their friends from elementary to high school. But some people also are scared their property values will go down and that their child will have to attend a school with a different "character" than the current school. Also, most people don't want overcrowding, but also don't want to be have a longer bus ride to alleviate overcrowding.
