Good morning everyone!

After the email that I sent yesterday regarding the US Soccer proposed birth year changes I received quite a bit on feedback. Based on some of the feedback I decided to create a questionnaire that our club leadership can

complete regarding this issue. Directors of Coaching should be completing this questionnaire.

It is important that we get your collective answers, questions and comments so that I can have the necessary data to provide US Club Soccer prior to the US Soccer vote in November. Your voices should be heard and taken into

consideration. There should be full transparency on this discussion and those of you in the trenches and on the field should be included in discussions on important changes such as this. My aim is to make that happen and while

I'll probably make some enemies along the way, it's the right thing to do. SOCAL is the largest market and the deepest talent pool when it comes to youth soccer in this country. Your opinions matter!

So please take a few minutes to complete this questionnaire and please do so no later than Wednesday, October 16 at 5pm. I'll be sharing the information with US Club Soccer later this week.

Thank you

Michelle

It sounds like they are pissed off that a decision is going to be made without their input. I’m sure some of them do not want to change because it’s going to be a real headache to form completely new teams.

This is just a show. The writing is already on the wall. There are too many gains for ECNL to move to SY. They will not pause. 11/22 is not a "vote" actually. It is an announcement.

Why go through all effort to collect club feedback on if BY or SY makes the most sense for SOCAL league members if it's a "done deal".

US Club Soccer and SOCAL make a lot of $$$ doing nothing other than maintaining a registry of players. If you alienate your customers they're going to go somewhere else for the same service.

This is not a small change. It is a big change. I am very sure there have already been many months of discussion and negotiations among all those interested parties. Everyone in power is well aware of this progress and the direction. The "vote" result will not be a surprise, as the organization has already taken time to prepare for this significant change. That is why ECNL can do this in 25/26. The so called feedback seeking is just a political way to ask you to shutup.

Shutup, seriously.

You have no idea what SOCAL thinks about BY v SY or what it's member clubs are thinking.

We get that your daughter was born between Aug 1 and Dec 31 and you're drooling ar the possibility of playing down.

I hope your daughter is only able to play socal, so she is still have a chance that Socal will stay BY 25/26. ECNL will change regardless.

It would technically be playing their age group. Not playing down. It’s against the rules to play down unless you have someone to get you a special birth certificate.

What are you even talking about?

In Socal SOCAL League is the 3rd tier of player behind ECNL and ECRL and GA and DPL.

Nobody is worried about making it onto a SOCAL team.

If ECNL wants to change by themselves fine. But it won't be as easy as you think it will be.

As I said, this proposal must have been discussed and negotiated among all interested parties many months ago. Those Docs are not only aware of it like us today. If they can give feedback, they already did so a long time ago and are part of the negotiation. Also, the decision is not decided at the voting moment. Those people in power have already reached an agreement long before that.

Yes DOCs are typically not involved in league decisions. That is why they have board members they vote for the masses.

If they only get "involved" now, they are not part of the decision-making group. This kind of critical business change decision is only controlled by a small group.

If this email is legit, that means that these discussions have NOT been on going, but this looks more like a blitzkrieg push to force the issue for a change.

I know more than a few ECNL DOCs and TDs that were totally unaware of this debate back in July/August when rumors started swirling.

Depends on the org. Many orgs these proposals would have percolated through committees before the board got involved.

If it was board driven, a real indictment on ECNL. It paints a picture of a soccer org that bends to the whim of one board member who has a trapped kid that happens to have struggled over the past 2 years.

Depends on how you define a discussion.
Discussion have been going on but not any that involve your typical doc at the club level only at the league admin level.

I think the purpose of the email was because there was push back from some directors who had no idea anything was changing most doc do not get involved with soccer politics and only worry about their clubs and their own bottom line. This news was definitely a wake up call for some who are probably panicking because they are worried about their clubs losing money.

The problem is the big clubs affiliated with SOCAL have ECNL, ECRL, NPL teams which will they openly go against ECNL?but I agree SOCAL league has a lot of influence and many of the teams are not playing in the higher level leagues.

And you are forgetting that they have paying customers with real concerns
