I'm glad you finally learned war is a horrible, horrible thing, Virginia. I wonder when you will learn that it is also a horrible, horrible thing to not know if there are bombs in a parked car near your elementary school or temple, or if that neighbor of yours for thirty years secretly wants you dead. Terrorist acts have consequences. And you, sitting in a Bethesda parking lot in your Saudi-powered SUV while the kids are at Mathnesium, have the luxury of no consequences.

You mean like the neighbor who murdered the six year old for the crime of being Palestinian, in the United States? Stabbed a child to death?

Many communities know fear in the United States right now. Three
Palestinian college students were shot— at least one will never walk again. There is no monopoly.

And that fear will never justify additional killing of innocent children. In fact, Israel’s conduct of this war makes
It more likely for atrocities like Bucha in Ukraine to be repeated (yes, hate to tell you, many of us do not “ignore” atrocities) because Putin will remind the world that the U.S. is just fine with the killing of civilians as long as they’re Palestinians.

Again, the PP brought up terrible things that affect non-Palestinians, and you then go speak to why Palestinians have it so bad. That is her point. Can you care about any other people group but Palestinians? Its like a song, does every refrain hav to be about Palestinians?

The PP brought up living in fear as a justification for the wholesale killing of civilians. I don’t buy it.

Also, Bucha is not notable for its Palestinian population, if you read my post a bit more carefully.

Stop being a degenerate pro-Israel snowflake who accuses people of being antisemitic when Israel is systematically and indiscriminately slaughtering thousands of women and children in the name of "self-defense" - Israel is no different from Russia at this point.

BS. You are trying to use accusations of antisemitism to give Israel a get-out-of-jail-free card to commit horrific war crimes. Sorry. Doesn’t work.

So we shouldn't care when our closest "ally" is murdering women and children with our tax dollars?

You don't need to pay taxes, you can choose not to work. Or you can go back to the country that you care about so much. The U.S. doesn't need to change what it is doing at your command.

By the way, Israel is not our closest ally. They actually are not officially an ally. Ally has a defined meaning.

Oh gosh I hate to tell you that’s actually the whole point of elections.

If it takes Joe Biden losing an election to make him understand that young Americans do not want children killed in our name, so be it.

No one but Palestinians and Muslims are voting based on this issue. They do not care if a Republican win harms ordinary Americans day to day, all that matters is that BIden knows he didn't do what they wanted for their interest "back home". If your plan is to bring over all of your relatives from your home countries and have a lot of babies to form a group big enough to swing elections, go for it I guess, nothing we can do about it, America's open borders have consequences.

+1

The amount of unbridled antisemitism on this forum is astonishing. I assume most posters are in the DMV, potentially my neighbors, friends, and colleagues.

As a person from a Jewish family, myself largely secular in day-to-day life, I’ve never doubted antisemitism exists. Over the years, people of all political and social stripes who don’t realize I’m Jewish have said antisemitic things to me. But I’ve always believed that these comments were not reflective of widespread antisemitism. Even with the uptick in antisemitic hate attacks and the rebirth of neonazism in the US and elsewhere, which is certainly scary, I thought that full on hatred and dehumanization of Jews was not a thing.
The holocaust and the horror of what my father and my German Jewish relatives experienced was far off and distant -
could never happen again.

Jews are less than 2% of the world population thanks in part to that Holocaust and the centuries of persecution and killing Jews have faced in the Middle East. Terrorist groups like Hamas, Arab nations, and hardline Islamic people globally want them - us - completely eradicated from the world. What has been eye opening since 10/7 is how effectively they’ve mobilized and normalized antisemitism.

Israel was violently attacked and so many people not only celebrated the murders of Jews, but blamed Jews for the slaughter and/or denied they these atrocities even happened or that Jews are even legitimately rooted in the Middle East … sounds so frighteningly familiar.

Another Jewish Holocaust doesn’t seem impossible anymore.

Arab nations want the Jews completely eradicated? lol do you need a reminder which nation state has set up concentration camps?

I am neither Palestinian nor Muslim but yes I will absolutely vote against the U.S.
enabling the killing of children. I am hoping our lawmakers change course before I am forced to vote against Biden but I will absolutely do so. I cannot look at my (half Jewish) child and tell her that I am just fine with children her age being killed every day by bombs the U.S. supplies. And yes I understand that means I may have to explain to her that is why we always have up to date passports in case we need to seek healthcare in Canada.

New poster here:

I’ll say it. I don’t consider Palestinians innocent.
In fact this entire conflict has made me rethink if Muslim’s should be allowed in the US. I am beginning to think they aren’t capable of integrating into a western, secular democracy. I’m a democrat, and I’m really thinking that not every culture can melt into the US. As evidenced by progressive Muslims saying they won’t support Biden. They will sacrifice women’s rights for their religious dogma. They will sacrifice American democracy for their religious dogma. I’m very anti maga but this has exposed the problems with the far left and the democrats need to continue to reign that faction in. Mostly i think they do, but vigilance is required.

You are ridiculous. I won't support Biden because I disagree with his policies. That is my right as an American. Sacrifice American democracy? That's what Republicans are doing. Sacrifice women's rights for their religious dogma? Again, sounds like Republicans.

Should we bar evangelical Christians from coming to the US? They seem like the greater threat to American democracy and women's rights that the tiny percentage of Muslims.

You are an Islamophobe. Sorry that my existence in the country bothers you. Actually not sorry. Be sure you tell that to all the Muslim doctors, engineers, and the many, many upstanding Muslim citizens of this country.

You suck.

Maybe I am, but sadly it’s been earned over decades of lived experience. There are people that can come here and integrate. But not all can or should. It’s a privilege to be an American. I’m not convinced some cultures are worthy of it. Your existence is probably fine. But a culture rooted in violence and misogyny shouldn’t be tolerated or welcomed. Sorry not sorry.
… and yes not voting for Biden or actively campaigning against is basically the same as supporting republicans. That’s how this democracy works.
We are stuck with the evangelicals. Why bring in more problematic fundamentalists?

That's a little stronger phrasing than I'd use--I think most people, given a comfortable life, are capable of putting aside repressive traditions and raising their kids to be better, less xenophobic people... but the key here is "given a comfortable life." How do you solve the problem of a civil war where both sides are seeped in decades of terror and resentment? You let them leave is the best answer I have. You give the sane people a better place to be so their kids can grow up having terror and war be abstracts, relegated to history.

Fundamentalism in all shapes is a threat to every free society. If you like having the ability to raise your kids in whatever religion you please, raising your girl children to be on equal footing with the boys, want to marry whom you love regardless of gender, etc. you will not allow zealots of any flavor to control the narrative. You will teach your children that life isn't some zero sum obstacle course, that having an opposing opinion isn't heresy, that it's important to think critically, to study history, and to put everything in context.

I replied to you once already but missed a fairly salient point— you do understand that the state of Michigan is a must-win for Biden and so if your racism is correct he’s in deep trouble?

Not voting for Biden "because Israel" is such an absurd idea I have to think you're not arguing as a real person. Is this your new Overton window, suggesting that left wingers don't vote democrat as "protest?"

I almost agree with you, but I wonder if this is a "Palestinian" thing, not a Muslims as a whole thing. Palestinians never really talk about Islam, religion, a god, moral behavior, any sort of golden rule, really. Everything is about I want this I want that everyone one else in the world has treated me unfairly Jews are disgusting stupid and bad and they are on my land. Palestinianism seems to be its own type of cult I think. No one needs to call themselves "Palestinian" when you think about it, they are Arabs (or Levantines), there has never been a country called Palestine. The identify of Palestinian is just a state of mind, and a harmful one.

I won’t pretend to know enough about Palestine and their people to weigh in on the specifics. But when you see the history and behavior of the Middle East. When you see the governance they choose time and time again. When you learn that once they become a plurality here in the US they make similar choices… why should we side with that? Ever?
And I don’t agree with the settlements on the West Bank, and think Israel exacerbates their own problems. But it is a democracy. And it’s the lone island in the region.

It’s not a democracy.

No one supports Hamas!!!!

You can’t even admit Israel has gone WAY PAST any norms and is just bombing it all and killing everyone.

A Now we’re at organ theft. Mutilated corpses. Decayed infants. They are never coming back from this on the world stage

This is an outright lie. It is a disgusting and disgraceful lie. Enough. You can be anti-Israel. Fine, get it. But to pass on these barbaric lies about organ theft. Good Lord - you’re taking a page right out of Blood Libel, FFS.

Decayed infants story is true.

Organ theft has happened in the past. Read the newsweek article cited earlier.

Mutilated corpses and organ theft was accused yesterday in a letter and was reported and the allegations were reported by the Washington Post. There was no comment from Israel at the time the Post published the story. You cannot say it is an outright lie.

PP from above has a good point. These were 80 bodies returned by Israel. What happened to these 80 people while under Israeli custody?

What’s happened to the 107 hostages, including young people and infants, that are still being kept by Hamas and Islamic Jihad?

Nice deflection. This has nothing to do with organ theft. If you listen to the rabid, dehumanizing, anti-Palestinian racism coming from Israel’s leaders, you’ll understand why and how organ theft has happened. If you can steal Palestinian land and lives, why would you not steal Palestinian organs?

The Yemen war and American sponsorship thereof were horrible.

But no one asked us to “stand with KSA” the way we’re asked to stand with Israel.
