So, we still can't drill here in the US?

Please tell me rationally and cogently why you oppose drilling here at home. Because I am sure none of you get around town only on a bike and sandals.

We DO drill in the U.S., if that is what you are asking.

After bottoming out in the last year of the Bush administration, U.S. domestic production of crude oil has increased every year.

I think it completely reasonable to have some environmental review before someone pokes a hole in the ground and starts drawing oil. Have you ever been to an active drilling site? It's usually quite a mess. Don't spill on the nice carpet (wetland) and be sure to clean up after yourself.

Also note that Shell is starting exploratory drilling offshore of Alaska this month.

But if you're talking about ANWR, think again. There isn't anywhere near enough oil under that site to justify potentially destroying the habitat. We can do better.

How long do you think we can continue to rely on fossil fuels? They will go away eventually, you know. Seems like "now" might be a good time to invest in alternatives that don't have the significant potential to destroy animal habitats or pollute groundwater.

In case you did not realize, we produced more oil last year than any time in our nation's history.

A very through conservative view of what our energy/environmental policy should be

Invest? Or speculate? It's just expensive liberal pipe dreams. Tell me how that investment in solyndra turned out. Fossil fuels work and we're finding new deposits all the time.

Do you think we have an infinite supply of fossil fuels? Do you think that fossil fuels don't negatively impact the environment? Do you think that we will eventually need to find an alternative energy source? Then why not start now and, you know, LEAD?

+1 PP. All Romney can do is spout right-wing talking points and denigrate alternative energy efforts while offering policy that denies current environmental realities. Maybe these boneheads don't realize that environmental issues cause political problems all over the world? Too bad our politicians pander to the ignorant among us of instead of trying to explain these complex issues to the public as if they were adults.

One of the current GOP talking points is to get rid of all of the tax credits for wind and solar power. While I disagree, it could be an idea to discuss except that they insist that the tax preferences for coal and oil stay in place. Come on.

Since when did Republicans start giving up after one failed attempt at anything? You people have gone soft.

Thorough? Did you see how he magically assumed our oil production rates would match the growth rates of the emerging oil producers, if only the EPA went away?

Sorry but even a novice can see that we are not an emerging oil produceer. We have been drilling for oil here since the 1850's. We are a mature producer. And in case it was not obvious, the word "hypothetical" should clue you in.

And where might the billions of dollars come from to develop this technology? Oh yeah more taxes. We've been doing this for years and it's still expensive, inefficient and not worth it. Cars don't drive on your pixie dust. New oil reserves have been found and continue to be found, Tar sands in Russia and Canada, Gulf of Guinea etc. They are cheap to extract and they have fueled the world for centuries. I'm not against any regulation but this "we shouldnt drill here" because I want to be all warm and fuzzy is why our people are getting killed.

Um, ever heard of the Chevy Volt? Electricity isn't pixie dust.

And if oil is so cheap to extract, why do the taxpayers have to pay for it?
