Inspired by the other thread, I would like to try making pizza at home. Is there a difference between tomato sauce for pasta, and that for pizza? If so, please recommend your favorite pizza sauce. Thank you!

Blend a can of tomatoes with 2 cloves garlic and 1-2 tbsp olive oil. No need to cook.
I find prepared sauces are generally too sweet and mask the taste of the toppings. |
I cook some crushed garlic in 3 tablespoons of olive oil and then add a can of tomatoes and 3 tablespoons of tomato paste. I then toss in some herbs, especially if I have fresh. I leave simmering on low for a half hour or so. I use my blender stick to smooth. I have a bunch of 1 cup pyrex dishes and this recipe fills 4-5 of them. I toss them in the freezer and take out as I need.
I use a can of good quality crushed tomatoes then cook it down with some garlic, black pepper and olive oil.
Muir Glen.
If you want bottled, then the trader joe's pizza sauce is good. If you want canned, then use crushed san marzanos.
Vace sells their pizza sauce which we use when making our own pizzas.
We make something similar to this. In a pinch Muir Glen and TJ's sauce are okay. |
We use casa visco pizza sauce. sold at giant
I like the trader Joe's pizza sauce. It's easy and cheap.
I've done the homemade but Muir Glen is also pretty good. I like Cento too but it is hard to find. I will tell you though, that my favorite sauces are in Giada's line at Target. The red sauces are a little on the thicker side and taste great on pizza.
