Find Romney's use of this to be laughable.
1) He's no Reagan. 2) I think most people are, in fact, better off. Or, if they're not, they know they would have been a lot worse under the other guy. |
If you own stocks, you're better off. By 70%.
If you have kids 18-25 who could stay on your health insurance, you're better off. If you have a job related in any way to the auto or banking industries, you're better off. I can't think of anyone who isn't better off, except Osama bin Laden. |
I'm better off. My cousin is back home from the war, and small business has access to credit. |
Worse off took about 20% paycut in medical sales and my homes are worth less. Dh had to go into government contracting. |
I'm better off.
We bought a beautiful house -- very low interest rates -- and I gave birth to a wonderful baby girl. I have been lucky enough to stay home with my kids, my husband has been getting steady raises. Our stock portfolio is up. |
Worse off. Salary is down and supporting family members who cannot find work or are underemployed. |
I'm so sick of people stealing material for this forum. |
You lost me at "homes". |
Kind of ironic since the question is from the Romney campaign, and they are ripping off Ronald Reagan. |
I keep trying to feel sorry for people in medical sales and failing.
And government contracting? Isn't that how people get rich? |
Better off because I got married and bought a house. Worse off because my husband and my government salaries have been frozen while tbe cost of everything else goes up. I don't blame Obama for all that though... |
The same. I am fortunate enough to have weathered the economic downturn. Not ahead, but not behind. |
Better off. Better job with higher salary and promotion potential. All my immediate family are healthy, and stock portfolio is healthy again. |
Are we personally better off? Yes. Although it always feels on the edge.
However, I believe the argument here is highly nuanced. There are too many factors involved to easily answer this question, which is why I hate this being used as a rallying cry. I'm planning to vote for Obama even though the economy is still rather shaky because I truly believe his plans are better than Romney's for all our citizens. |
Better off. Was 25 when I voted (Obama). Have purchased a home, income has increased 30%, had a baby, will be making substantially more soon, stocks/funds have done very well.
I remember going uninsured while in college. I got a FT job in undergrad at 20, partially for health care coverage. I was so relieved that I can cover my daughter until 26. My now 23 yo sister was uninsured until the new law passed and was able to go back on our mother's insurance. |
