Never met them and don't run in the same circles. But I do know when someone is getting crucified in the court of public opinion.

The moral of the story is that if you went to Landon and the person you abused was Black and poor, you can get a top lawyer, get away with it and be paid millions. If you were stupid enough to end up with a corpse in your hands, as in the UVA case, then you went to jail.

The Duke lacrosse players have fabulous careers, doting wives, etc. ten years on. Maybe they will be coaching basketball for their daughters someday in Chevy Chase, too.

Ummm. Yes, because it was proven that these accusations were false. And now it is a generally accepted belief that these men were wrongly accused to begin with. If this truth had never emerged, they would be ruined for life. Just as Kavanaugh will be if he is not able to prove that he didn't do this. See the difference???

Actually, no. I don’t. None. That is why I mention it.

Mmmmkay. I'll attempt to spell it out for you. But honestly I don't know if that will work because I can't account for lack of intelligence or critical thinking here.

Duke Lacrosse Case: Accused boys were presumed guilty due to an accusation. After months of everyone thinking they were absolute monsters, but after players were allowed to present evidence to refute their accusers claim (which was actually possible to do since the date, time, location, and witnesses at the party were all "known" variables in the accusation), the case was dropped against them because no evidence could support the claim. It is now widely believed that the Duke Lacrosse players did not commit rape against this woman as she claimed they did. (Though they're behavior and overall character was deplorable that night...100% IMO)

Kavanaugh Case: Accused judge is presumed guilty due to an accusation. He is assumed to be a monster because "I believe her" is all that is required for society to forever place this label on him. He will have no recourse or avenue by which to refute her claim because there is no time/place/witnesses/evidence named that would allow him to offer any evidence (if he had any, 36 years later!) to counter in a "prove your own innocence"-type fashion that we apparently now require as a society.

This is how the two cases are different. And why his future is ruined and will forever be marked as a sexual predator, whereas theirs was not and they will not. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

a sexual predator
a rapist
a liar
a cocaine user
unfit because he defended himself
an alcoholic
a wife beater
a terrible father for not dropping out of the nomination process

Did I miss something? Do we have them all covered here? Anyone have something to add?

And, then we have posters saying that his reputation has not been destroyed and he can go back to doing what he did before if he just drops out. Sure. Yet, we have opinion pieces being published for him to stay away from children. Sure. He can just drop out and go back and things will be just the same as they were before. Sure. Read the list above, folks.

Seems as if we are allowed to throw ANY accusation at Judge Kavanaugh. He is fair game. He is open to public scrutiny. He is allowed no privacy at all. But, God forbid you say ANYTHING about the accuser. Because, she is the “victim.” Nobody is allowed to look into her background because that would be victim shaming. No ma’am, we can’t go there.

I am so sick of the liberals here. I am so sick of gossip and the allegations and the accusations based on no evidence. I am sick of the Democrats on this committee, and the ones in Congress who “believe her” because THAT is what is politically correct to do. Forget there is no corroborating evidence. Forget that this man has had 6 background checks and has served 12 years on the 2nd highest court in the land and has been accused of NOTHING.

I don’t know Judge Kavanaugh. But, I know he is innocent of all of the allegations thrown at him. And, I feel deeply for his family and him because this hell he is in has been extended another couple weeks. I also know NOTHING will ever be the same for him. And, that saddens me deeply. And, contrary to what some of you keep repeating - HE did not ask for this. He was nominated. He accepted the nomination. I am sure, in retrospect if he knew and truly understood the tactics the liberals would take, he may not have accepted. But, here were are. And, there is no way in hell he will withdraw now because that would be surrendering and all of you accusations-pushers would dub him as guilty.

People keep saying things like... when the FBI proves (fill in the blank). It doesn’t work that way. You think the investigation is going to turn up “guilt” or “innocence.” It won’t. And, Kavanaugh knows that. He knows it is another week of hell for him because of sites like this and the media that will continue to slander him and print op-eds saying he shouldn’t be around children the longer this goes on. Those of you who think the FBI investigation is going to prove anything are ignorant and/or naive.

I have had one thing reinforced from this whole horrible ordeal. There are no depths to which the liberals won’t go. They do not care about the lives they destroy, because the ends justify the means. I am so glad that I am not one of you.

I am so glad you said this. Agree with every word.

Were you this upset when the republicans controlled senate refused to even hold a hearing for Merrick Garland, for 14 months?

Are you f-ing kidding? On what planet are the two scenarios even vaguely similar? Oh, right - they're not. Good grief.

I was with you till you said that(bolder portion) you are completely contradicting yourself. Just as the liberals are assuming as you claim a bunch of things about him, you are also assuming that he is innocent. Were you there that night? How do you know??!

I'm the PP directly above you. I didn't write the longer post, to which you're referring. Speaking for myself, I don't know he is innocent, but I'm certainly not going to presume he's guilty either - with zero evidence! Just as none of you know beyond the shadow of a doubt that Ford is telling the truth. All you have is her statement of events, but again - zero evidence. Were YOU there that night??

There were a group of her friends on last night.

How on earth would you know this? Oh, right. You don't.

Sure! I have a question!! Why do you feel you need to insult my intelligence — “lack of intelligence or critical thinking” if your facts are solid? Wouldn’t they have stood for themselves if that were the case? There is no need for your tone, and it, if anything, reinforces my certainty.

Ps - In the Duke case, they were - and still are - men, not boys. At least in terms of actual age.

All of you women defending him either did not watch the hearings or you do not REALLY know him at all.

If you ARE defending him, I think you are simply in a haze, living a privileged life and are desperate to hang onto it. No one with a brain in their head would defend this guy after his performance the other day. He is simply awful. Cry baby, cry baby - and an ugly and insincere crier at that.

He is an angry, rude, belligerent man. I am so sorry that so many seemingly smart women vouched for him.

What a JOKE he is. I hope his wife is smarter than she looks and is making moves to get out.

Is the FBI investigation only looking at the sexual assault? If they find that BK perjured himself will they report on that as well?

The assault is terrible if it happened, but the lying would be significant and disqualifying on its own IMO.

The FBI will start with the allegations and follow the facts.

If, for example, Ford raises the definitions of Boofing and Devils Triangle, the FBI may ask his friends what those meant to them in the context of 1982-1983. The result could lead the FBI to determine there was lying.

Is that in the scope of their investigation? Or just the assault. Hope it’s broad enough to look into most of his statements, not just the assault.

Translation: Oh, please, please let them find SOMETHING because we know nothing will turn up about the allegations of sexual assault.

+1
Now they're trying to nail him on the meaning of slang terms from his yearbook?? What is this, high school all over again? I grew up here during the same time as Kavanaugh and have never even heard of "boofing" or "Devil's Triangle." I can't even imagine the FBI would stoop so low as to investigate something so entirely frivolous.

The gathering at which Ford was attacked is ON HIS CALENDAR!

Oh shit!! Thanks for this breaking news. I had not yet heard this has been announced as a fact. Those FBI agents do not mess around.

Does anyone dare to deny this?

So, so, so, so, so true. And I say that as someone who is pro-choice yet feels the way in Kavanaugh has been maligned is grotesque.

Never thought of it that way. You are so right.

Wrong. Hello?! Have you been awake the past couple years? #metoo has taken down liberals and conservatives alike

With one big exception - there was EVIDENCE and CORROBORATION - or ADMITTANCE OF GUILT. You can't "take down" someone without at least one of these. And we all know what you want is to take down Kavanaugh.

She has said she believes Dr. Ford.

And, she also says she never met Brett Kavanaugh--and does not remember the party. She doesn't want to call her lifelong friend a liar.

I have a lifelong friend - grade school through college, including study abroad. We often notice that we don't remember the same things about our experiences, or sometimes one remembers and the other has no recollection. My memory is generally better, but still there are some things that I don't recall. We laugh about it, but never do we think the other is lying.

Pretty sure I would recall the gathering where my female friend (the ONLY other female at the house) had flown down the stairs, fled the party without saying a word and left me by myself in a house with four drunk boys---two of whom had just physically assaulted her?

+1 right? At the very least, would the friend not remember confronting Christine the next time she saw her "hey...what happened the other night? Why did you disappear and leave me alone at X's house?" They were 15! Fifteen. And Leland can't recall that one time when she went to a house with her girlfriend and 4 boys but at the end of the night the girlfriend ran out of the house? Or vanished (if she didn't see her leave)? When I was 15, I would have been very panicked if one of my 15-year-old friends was unaccounted for at the end of the night. Especially if she was the only other girl there with me. It's not like this was a large group of people. Makes no sense.

I agree completely. I'd like to hear more from Keyser.

Nothing has happened to his life. This will all be old news in a couple of weeks and he will be on the SCOTUS.

Applause. Thank you for spelling all of this out for the obtuse PP. I'm incredulous that anyone would claim there is no difference in these scenarios. Kavanaugh will never get to clear his name, simply because too much time has passed to present any hard evidence exonerating him. You are so right that now we're in a "prove your own innocence" time. It's frightening, to put it mildly.

Honest question: if you were Ford and this actually did happen, would you just shut up and not come forward? If so, why?
