He just looks presidential

Can anyone admit that? I think if I made a call for a casting director to send me a few presidents, they'd stop at Mitt because he's that good.

I don't think he's 'that good', but sure, he looks good.

So looking "presidential" to you means looking like an older white male?

I actually really liked the 2008 campaign during the primaries because having Obama and Clinton "looking presidential" gave a nice glimpse of what power would look like in this country if it were slightly less entrenched in the "older white male" demographic. I would like to see more of that, rather than less. This R/R ticket is definitely less.

I agree! I am sick of people saying that older while men are the model for looking "presidential".

Oh geez - this reminds me of the horrendous speaker on NPR yesterday who thought we needed a new president because Michelle Obama doesn't "look like a first lady".

This thread title is absolutely true if you emphasize the word "looks".

You should totally vote for him based on that.

My elderly mother [born a WASP]loves Obama. So does her republican best friend. They were adults when JFK [Irish Catholic] was elected and see Obama's election as the same sort of popular affirmation. That sound bite on Michelle Obama gets attention but how typical is the belief? I'd say it's unusual.

Meanwhile there's a casting which I really don't like- Tyler Perry as Alex Cross. . . never really saw him as my vision for the character. Ironically neither did this author whose books I also love:

A funny article during the primaries ( I forget where) cast all of the candidates as movie character stereotypes. Romney as "Duck Philips" from Mad Men; a soul-less executive headed for a mid-life crisis. Santorum as the stiff, dour, humorless fiance that the lead in a romantic comedy dumps in the final act, Gingrich as a decadent Roman emperor, etc. Romney looks the part, but unfortunately his qualifications stop there.

It's not about being an old white man.

People who look presidential: Obama, Romney, Hillary Clinton, Rubio

People who don't: Biden, Chris Christie, Dukakis,
and probably Palin, but I'm on the fence about her as to looks.

Why does it matter? Studies show that looking presidential is a big part of who gets elected. Here, we have two men who look presidential so I assume that won't have much effect.

He looks like clip art of an old timey idea of president - or the father in a sit com from the 50s. So yes, if thats your idea of looking presidential, it works. Now just challenge yourself to roll into the present day world we live in, and he begins to look like a dinosaur, not a presidential representative of the USA.
