Had no idea he was a Republican!

I guess one of the very few in Hollywood. They were desperate to have someone.

And it showed. They miss Ronnie so much that any chance to see a cowboy actor on stage made them giddy.

I think the point of having Eastwood was that, although he was known as a Republican from his days as Mayor of Carmel, the Super Bowl commercial made people suspect he supported Obama. So when he endorsed Romney, it was a big coup, and they wanted to rub it in.

It's simple target marketing. When you want to sell something, you use a spokesperson the audience can relate to.

82-year-old white men are all the GOP has left.

Takoma here -- liberal and proud of it. But I'm an admirer of Peggy Noonan because she sometimes tells the truth even if it does not fit the day's party line. So I was interested to see her take on Clint:
Night three was good in different ways. The Friends of Mitt who showed up to speak for him painted a better picture of his personal virtues than has ever been painted. The Romney family film was beautiful and touching. Clint Eastwood was funny, endearing—"Oprah was crying"—and carries his own kind of cultural authority. "It's time for somebody else to come along and solve the problem." He was free-form, interesting—you didn't quite know what was going to come next—strange and, in the end, kind of exhilarating. Talk about icons. The crowd yelling, "Make my day," was one of the great convention moments, ever.

Just another gaffe for the Republican party. Can't even keep track of all the screw-ups in this election period alone. Sad to see Eastwood look so old and almost senile. Funny thing is he used to be considered somewhat of a feminist sympathizer due to some of the Dirty Harry movies.

I don't know how old you are, but I've found myself really appreciating older people--hearing their opinions (whether I agree or not) that are formed by life's experiences and also admiring their gutsiness for "getting out there" and give it their all.

What surprises me is that he seems to have completely eclipsed Rubio who spoke after him. Rubio gave a good speech and I still wonder why he's not the VP pick. But no one seems to be talking about his moment on the national stage thanks to that weird performance by Clint.

Hmmm . . . do you think the Democrats relate to Biden?

I agree with you about older people. I just didn't think this was the greatest example of wisdom from experience. JMHO.

PP here. I agree about his performance not being the best example, but I didn't view him as acting senile--just sort of "rambly."
